This is in response to the letter (Jan. 30) from Rolande Caron. Her letter was a thinly veiled attack on Republican candidates.
She lashed out at Newt Gingrich for his take on the sanctity of marriage. I believe he is a Catholic who believes the Bible, while she finds that (apparently) laughable. So, God got it wrong, who can argue with Elton John?
Two different opinions, I feel.
Then she ridicules Mitt Romney for being wealthy. Funny, the American dream was to admire folks who worked hard and prospered. She neglected to mention the millions of dollars Romney has given to the poor and down-trodden, but that wouldn't have given her tirade much traction.
Barack Obama's class warfare speeches are working, aren't they? For some, maybe.
Caron wrote, "Those who want to restore family values by quoting scripture should look into becoming preachers, not elected officials." Well, I am a God-fearing, pro-country, pro-Israel, tax-paying conservative, and I will not be intimidated. We are fit to be only preachers?
The dictionary definition of socialism is: A theory or system of ownership of the means of production and distribution by society, rather than by individuals.
Of course, we have all heard many times that the nation's woes are not the fault of Obama; it is all because of George W. Bush. As if; there is no accountability for some individuals.

There must be something to that. Then you might research the Church's earlier position on the morality of lending money for interest. I don't believe Christians were allowed to do that.

America has never had a socialist government. The means of production and distribution have never been owned by society (not government). No serious political party in the United States advocates a socialist government.
On the other hand, "Fascism is a radical authoritarian nationalist political ideology where its individuals are united together as one people in national identity by suprapersonal connections of ancestry, culture, and blood which seeks to purify the nation of foreign influences." The weakness of this definition is that it is ahistorical. It ignores that a alliance of the business, military, and church elites was necessary to establish the authoritarian nationalist political ideology. In this, its more of a definition of Nazism than fascism.
Has American ever been fascist. Yes, 1878-1914. And many of these strains are expressed today in the Republican Party - authoritarian, of course, nationalistic what else was the Bush doctrine, anti-immigrant, no question, anti-foreign influence, overt, lead by the business elite anyone who has watched the Republican primaries in detail can only wonder had how the party has taken orders from this elite first in the formation of the Tea Party and now in the slavish surrender to the Romney campaign.
Shows that conservatives are not conservative. They are radical advocates of a 20th century economic and political philosophy based on fascism (the elite) and ultra-individualism among the disregarded.

And I apologize, Dan. On this site I was able to retrieve the link. The info contained within it referenced Sen John Kerry's efforts to skirt MA tax laws by registering his yacht in RI thus saving appx. a half millon $ in taxes. He eventually paid the tax amid mounting pressure. And Charlie Wrangle was referenced as well. The story was courtesy of CBS news. My point is there are cheats on both sides of the aisle, a fact that is undeniable. I don't mind republicans being called out for similar transgressions, however liberals are living in a dream world believing their heroes are void of guilt when they are called out. Play it straight and you become more believable.

In your original post you attack Gingrich, Romney and Bush, and that's fair. You defend Obama and while I've got issues with him I'll let that slide. However, no where do I see anything in your post that comes close to my point of view. I don't care if you disagree with me. Just be honest about it.
