Congratulations to Bishop Malone for standing firm that Catholic churches and hospitals should not have to pay for birth control services.
The Bishop said it clearly in his letter to us: "The primary issue is 'forcing' the church or others who find these drugs or procedures morally offensive, to pay for them. This is a clear violation of our religious freedoms under the First Amendment."
A Sun Journal article (Feb. 13) included that "Obama announced that no religious institution that objects to birth control would have to provide it or pay for it."
Thanks to the Bishop for forcing the issue and thanks to President Barack Obama for seeing the light.

If Mitt opposes this so vehemently, why does RomneyCare(The Massachusetts Healthcare law Romney signed in 2006) have the exact same requirement?

Where were all those people who are complaining about the government forcing them to violate their values on birth control when the Pope came out against the war in Iraq and against torture? Where are they when the Pope is supporting unions and a higher minimum wage? Where are they when the Pope is calling for immigration reform? And where are they when the Catholic church is calling for universal health care and better living conditions for the poor? When you start cherry-picking your values and morals it causes people to suspect it is really politics hiding behind moral principle and it makes you look hypocritical.

The church affiliated organizations that would have been required to include no-cost birth control in their employer provided health insurance plans are setup to accept Federal funds without violating the first amendment which means they are subject to Federal laws and rules. So this was never a separation of church and state issue.
This was an attempt by the Catholic hierarchy to impose their very perverted view of human sexuality on the rest of us and to deny to their employees the freedom of conscience that the 1st amendment was intended to protect.
The proposal was never intended to be implemented in the first place. It included a one year period for comment and discussion. Instead the Catholic Bishops tried to turn it into a political issue.
Thankfully the President worked out a very acceptable compromise that all affiliated groups now agree with and only the Bishops are opposing. Obviously they neither represent their members or common sense.

Malone is another disgraceful New England class product of his time. It always warms my heart to repeat this old line heard dozens of times in differing circles. This comes from my personal experience "class, caste, and or social graces in a circle; it can all kiss my @$$." What next for the dear sweet Bishop Malone excommunicating those by the wheel who use contraception?
