LEWISTON — A suicidal man with a gun is holding police at bay at St. Peter's Cemetery, police say. The entire cemetery at 217 Switzerland Road is shut down and has been for much of the day.

"The guy is suicidal right now. We're trying to talk to him to put the gun down and surrender," said Lewiston police Lt. Michael McGonagle. "We know he's distraught over personal issues. We're trying to end this peacefully without him hurting himself."

Man with gun reported at Lewiston cemetery

Mental illness is real
Women attempt suicide more often but males are more successful in their attempts . Men use guns to their heads , women usually use pill and drug induced comotose ( go to bed , wake up dead ) or a razor blade in a warm tub , sometimes prescription drugs and alcohol combinations
Hope this guy comes around in time and we are all confident the police are doing the best they can
They have dealt with this before
They do this for a living , protecting the public against themselves
Attempted suicide is against the law in all 5 0 states . It is a felony , like spousal abuse and other assault and battery offences with deadly weapons
Pray for a good conclusion to this y'all . .... † y v m Amber et. al.

Suicide

I did read this correctly didn't I? The news did say SUICIDE? I fail to see how the police are responsible for this. Would the person that suggested it rather he just be left alone til he decided whether to kill himself or others? He apparently was planning this or he wouldn't have had a gun and his Mother did call for police help. The training that you refer to would be what? Learning how to approach a suicidal person with a gun and get it away from him without getting shot himself? If the police had approached him and gotten shot before someone shot the man would that have been better? Just your approach to the subject is so typical of people that always see a law suit coming out of every incident or maybe a grudge against the right side of the law. Alot of people are going and have gone through tough times and can't always be blamed on someone or something else.

Jerk

Nice. Great view for my baby girl to see from heaven. I know she is safe in the ground, but geesh, this is suppose to be a place of peace and rest. The river is right across the way- go jump in there next time.
