Christina Berry's response (March 3) to my previous letter of Feb. 26 against gay marriages asked what rights I had in being so harsh with my opinions.
I had asked to give the Constitution a rest, but that is what gave both of us the right to freedom of speech.
Berry suggested religion should be given a rest but, for some, religion has had decades of rest and it is time for people to wake up.
If members of the gay community are not pushing their views on the public, I would like to know what they call it, since same-sex marriage has been turned down before and they won't take "no" for an answer.
Give religion a rest? It is the creator who doesn't approve of gay marriage, and Christians should count themselves lucky for being alive.
If things keep going like the present, what will be next? Some male will come up with the idea of allowing men to have more than one wife? As long as the people involved agree to the arrangement since they are madly in love (with love being the key word), why not?
What a nice family atmosphere that would make, especially after children start arriving. Or does that happen before marriage now?
What a great soap opera world we are in. Who knows what love really is today?

How many guys were in his gang ? i forget ( 1 3 or so ? ) An all male entourage it was ( except for the aforementioned prostitute , Mary Magdaline :) He was btrayed with a k i s s by a guy by the name of Judas ! Shocking . These guys used to sit around and talk story , drink wine , make jokes and such , probabaly discuss Mohummud's teachings - stuff like that
What does that have to do with same sex marriage ? Nothing . Same sexers will get married whether you approve of it or not
Love love whenever and wherever you find it and hate hatred and end bigotry

I think if you take all the intelligentsia in the world and put them together, they will never be able to agree on the answer to a very simple question. Why doesn't marriage, gay or conventional work very well.
Oh there will be all sorts of theories and ideas, charts and graphs, but I wonder if anyone will hit on what I feel is the correct answer.
You see no matter how much you try to hide it, its so obvious.
Every single person on the face of the earth, gay or otherwise, has one fatal flaw. Everyone is different. No one has ever been able to come up with a machine that can match people together and guarantee it will work for life. With the way the world is changing, almost on a daily basis, how can anyone expect two totally different people being able to stay together for ever.
There are no guarantees in this life, hell, you don't even know if you'll still be alive tomorrow at this time, why should marriage be any different? Take what you have now, enjoy it now, because tomorrow it could all be gone.

They are splitting the hairs of conventionality and expecting business as usual. Society isn't structured that way.
I suspect if I wanted to marry Rex, my Alaskan Husky, that also would require special legislation.

And by your same logic that homosexuals have the right to marry now, because you define marriage between a man and woman, it wouldn't be special rights for homosexuals to allow same sex marriages. Heterosexuals would also be able to marry people of the same gender.

Nit picking is the last resort of the empty gun. Your correcting my 'could care less' was just that; nit picking. You know as well as I, that that expression goes either way almost on a 50-50 basis.
Secondly, going back 2 1/2 years to come up with my old post, tells me you care a heck a of a lot more about the same sex marriage situation than I do. And, in case you think I didn't notice; I don't believe that last sentence is mine, which would make your effort, taking artistic license of another author's work.Just so you know.
Thirdly, all of my posts on this particular page are responses beginning with Joanne Moore's mention of homophobia. As you should know by now, I don't start battles and seldom finish any, but I do engage in them when attacked.

First of all - I wasn't nit picking, I just included that to make sure that's what you meant. I didn't make that a central theme of my argument. I didn't say "He didn't use a contraction and got his negation wrong, so obviously his opinion on same sex marriage is wrong".
And I never said I didn't care. I do care. I don't like see people denied something without a good reason.
And lastly, the only reason I posted that post of yours was to prove that you do care. Post here, arguing with people, and brushing off their arguments by saying "I don't care" is a weak argument, and I wanted to call you on it. You do care. You oppose same sex marriage. If you really don't care, vote for it next November, and the gays won't bug you anymore.

I am getting so sick of hearing this gay marriage argument. If two guys want to get married, go for it.
I know that in no way shape or form will it ever have any effect on my life. We all know of course how well conventional marriage is working. I don't know a single person male or female that hasn't been divorced at least once. Then there's the argument that everyone is spouting that anything but a marriage between a man and woman is wrong in the eyes of whatever god you represent. I have chosen to remain single, I'm happy, I enjoy a lot of things married folks can't. Does that make me wrong.
What I'm trying to say is get over it, we all have things we're upset about. I was really pissed off because Mopar built a 318, instead of putting the 383 in everything. I got over it. I didn't make signs and protest all over the place. Mostly because it really didn't matter that much to anyone else. Get my point?

Are we to take from this that two guys being married to each other can be the role models on how to really make marriage work, so that the heterosexual community can learn from it? The heterosexual divorce rate is so high because they've never had same sex marriages to use as role models? Doubtful.

I don't like pistachios. I obviously I don't buy them as a snack. I prefer beef jerky as my go to snack. And someone eating pistachios has no effect on my enjoyment of beef jerky.
Same with same sex marriage. How successful my marriage is has nothing to do with anyone but my wife and I, and same goes for how we raise our children. If you're looking for excuses or a boogieman to blame, same sex marriage is an easy target. But the fact of the matter is that numerous factors come into play, from increased independence from gender role to less societal pressure against divorce.

"If brethren dwell together, and one of them dies, and has no child, the wife of the dead shall not marry outside unto a stranger: her husband's brother shall go in unto her, and take her to him as wife, and perform the duty of a husband's brother unto her."
Deuteronomy 25:5.
The Bible says, in this passage--Men, if your brother dies, you must marry his widow. Women, if your husband dies, you must marry your brother-in-law.
Yet somehow this is not done these days, even though it's in the Bible. Reading the Bible (both testaments) and being Christians does not require us to marry our in-laws. Accepting gay marriage does not require Christians to become polygamists. Soap operas are not required.
