A Sargent Corp. crew prepares the site at the corner of Route 4 and Snell Hill Road in Turner on Thursday for a Hannaford supermarket. The work began March 19.

two peas in the same pod - both owned by out of the country conglomerates.
and i'll bet the food city folks (where groceries are much much cheaper)are just jumping for joy. hannafords is one of the most overpriced grocery stores anywhere (except for shaws).
i shop three stores - food city, wal-mart and caswells.
hannafords driving philosophy can be summed up in 5 letters:GREED
their prices are 30-40% above food city and walmart. and their monster store is obliterating trees, polluting a wetland, ruining a neighborhood and adding more urban sprawl to the landscape. maybe mcdonalds can put a store right in the river.
and as far as the appeal against hannaford's goes - i guess the people that will suffer the most just didn't have enough money to pay off the judges.

For heavens sake, Bill, do you not think that Walmart is big business? It is the most evil company in the US. It lowers all prices by blackmailer it's vendors and then drives all smaller companies out of town or out of business. I find Hannaford's prices quite reasonable, and only shop there, Food City and Trader Joe's when in Portland. Food City is a great small store, but their assortment is limited by their square footage and the butcher the other day didn't know he could have corned their own beef. There's not much to ruin on Route 4, unfortunately. Hannaford will probably be quite attractive compared to most of the stuff between here and Farmington.

...is owned by a Minnesota company. Last I knew, Minnesota was still in the US.
