AUBURN — A local man who pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the 2007
death of his girlfriend's baby is claiming his lawyer was ineffective.
Todd Gamache, 25, had been charged with murder, but pleaded last
year to the lesser crime. A judge in April 2008 sentenced Gamache to 18
years in prison, with four of those years suspended.
Gamache's new lawyer met with a judge and a prosecutor at
Androscoggin County Superior Court on Wednesday to discuss his petition
for a hearing to review his conviction and his legal assistance during
the case. The judge agreed and a hearing was set for Dec. 22.
Emmy-Leigh Cole was 8 months old when she was alone with Gamache who
was babysitting the child for his girlfriend. Gamache said he dropped
the baby after giving her a bath. He changed his story to police
several times, a prosecutor said. A grand jury handed up a murder
indictment, which was dismissed after he pleaded guilty to
manslaughter.

Todd deserves to have many more years added to his sentence actually he deserves to never get out of prison for what he did.....an eye for an eye....so Lucille while you sit on your soap box and claim he doesnt deserve to be there...explain to Emmy's family and loved ones why he doesnt....cause you cant ever justify that thought to any of us. There is NOTHING ELSE to bring to the table that would change any of our thoughts....HE MURDERED AN 8 MONTH OLD BABY......

His lawyer which is public record was David Van Dyke. However, the lawyer did his job. Without that plea of manslaughter, he would have been guilty of murder and spend the rest of his life in prison. This lawyer did this scum bag a favor in getting him 14 years. It is not the lawyers fault that this scum murdered an innocent 8-month old baby.

In EVERY trial when you plead guilty or innocent, the jusge asks "Are you making this decision of YOUR own free will?" He will have to answer to God for what he did and you will also. I am glad that the paper finally got it right and didnt print the attorneys name. What differnce would it make anyways? Everyone one is entitled to a 2nd chance , even Todd. His case was not treated fairly so he is going back to correct it. His attorney didnt bring things to the table that will change all of your thoughts.
