From someone who uses the building on a bi-weekly basis, that place is a dump. If CLT wants it, then let them have it for $1 and save the money from heating and tearing it down. The problem we will be right back to though is that CLT can't afford the upkeep on a building like that, and the city will be called upon to take care of it again.
Alrighty K0NPHL1C7, look outside. See up in the sky, there may be a few raindrops, but aside from that nothing is falling. The casino will get built, hopefully run successfully, and the sky still won't be falling. This is one business in an area that needs any business that it can get. It's not "Mini-Vegas" or the spawning of "Paki-Marts".
How bout we give change a try for a bit, and if it's not working adjust then. It's what we have to do with LePage, so why not the casino?
Really all that Lewiston has to offer for a Casino is an old building, that is in serious need of repair. The infrastructure that you say Lewiston has really stops at the Fire/Police services, as the roads around that section of the mill and surrounding streets are horrible. During any rush hour times, that area of the bridge is backed up severely in all directions (on the flip side so is any part of Oxford when OPS lets out), so really we are looking at rehabbing an area that should be torn down and increasing traffic in an area that can't support it. While Lewiston could use the jobs and revenue that a Casino could bring, Oxford could use it more, as there are other opportunities that can come to Lewiston, but what ever goes out to Oxford?
Pineland's a good thought, but the pool's too small. I'd bet that you'll start seeing swim teams use the Bates pool, or even possibly the schools cutting the swim teams entirely.
Councilors Herrick and Farrell, you sirs are the burden on citizens, not the Dempsey Challenge.
If you're short sighted enough to not see the people who come into the city and need places to stay, food to eat, and merchandise to buy, yet would rather focus on spending $2800, and how that increases our tax rate then you truly can't see the big picture.
Take the .10 that you saved off my tax bill b cancelling spring clean-up, and that should pay for my share of the Challenge bill. Jackasses.
While everyone is quick to come down on the cops, especially if you are from Bates, the fact is that when you are gathered in mass and the police tell you to disperse, you do it. Looking at the two fine fellows in the picture, does anyone think they were actually following orders or did they decide to keep acting like a jackass?
Don't get me wrong i went to a party school and have seen this same thing plenty of times. The difference though was that when John Law came knocking we had the respect to listen, and not protest about how someone ate a little pepper spray for acting like a hoodlum.
If you keep taking away services so taxes don't increase, what happens when there are no more services to cut? Will we finally look at payroll and workflow?
That $150 for everything is less than I'll have to spend out of pocket for hauling my own spring clean-up off to the dump. Cutting the SRO's is a horrible idea to boot.
It would also be nice that when you bring up your concerns and contact your councilors that they would respond, or at least ask thier constituants what thier thoughts are, especially on issues like these.
Give it to CLT

The foundation isn't there in Lewiston either...

Great Shot Russ!
Another beauty.

Theres always two sides

What is left?
If you keep taking away services so taxes don't increase, what happens when there are no more services to cut? Will we finally look at payroll and workflow?
Well said Mr. Mayor
