What a success story, able to stay home, collect welfare while I work and support her so she can become a nurse. Meanwhile, I have been working extra hours, holidays, missing birthdays and years later......still have the same job, trying to support my family. Now that she is a nurse, I want to quit and have her pay for me..........someone ask her to return the money since she finally made it and along those lines, why don't we all quit our jobs until the right one comes along.. THATS A SUCCESS STORY?? Give me a break!
Just a response to fixit001. You know what they say about opinions bud! Although I do not know Denis Jean on a personal level, I know my father liked and respected him when he was working for the City Council. I believe Denis Jean is doing the responsible thing which for all we know, will put a tremendous amount of stress on Irene and Phil. It has been my experience (24 years public service) that you do not replace a person like Denis easily....if at all. The Denis' experience in negotiations in and of itself probably paid for his salary. Good luck Denis and especially good luck to Irene and Phil......I think you're gonna need it.
This was an AWESOME tip provided by and unknown person. I think the administrators at DHHS should be thanking this person with a generous reward for the tip.....perhaps take some of the salary away and give it to the person who actually contributed to the State of Maine!
GOOD LUCK TO ALL!! This is an awesome idea which is based on competition, loyalty, discipline and TEAM play. To those parents who do not have their kids involved....you should bring them and use it as a learning experience at the very least.
The snow came down very fast. I will, at this time, reserve my opinion about Lewiston Public Works and the response considered to be slow by some, however, if it happens again........I am looking for volunteers with a shovel and some sand.
Keep digging and you will uncover more of this than one person can deal with.......hey, wait a minute.............since only the few are still paying taxes which can support this type of investigation, who's going to investigate these people for free when the money runs dry. I know, pay "These People" and they will investigate their own, what an idea, I'm running to City Hall with this one. WHAT A JOKE!
57RNIt's about time someone cuts those who are NOT on the front lines!!! Can we take this idea and bring it to our local economies as well. It seems the only ones staying on top are those administrators told to cut the little guys/gals jobs making peanuts. We wouldn't have half the issues we're currently facing if we had TRUE LEADERS who are willing to take the necessary and at times painful steps, staying within budget or changing the way we do business. I guess this is just a pipe dream since a majority of the cuts would be cuts to the administrator tasked with finding money to cut in the first place. 1 + 1 = 3. NOTE: Please don't reply with the excuse "Cutting more line workers makes more sense than one administrator." Most of the time it's that one incompetent administrator who got you in that situation in the first place! Start at the top, make and example and replace with less expensive and more responsible people.
I have lived in Lewiston all my life.....I will be relocating to a place where the working people are appreciated and not just sucked dry of the money they earn and given to those who could care less about the City. Thanks to all those political leaders who care about nothing but themselves and how they're going to get appointed to another term in office. Thanks to those educators who have failed to step up to the plate and say, "Enough is enough!" What a failure! Thanks for nothing.
I also agree that there are many problems with welfare assistance in Maine, however, let me say this. Janet, you should look around you.....there are probably some white collar people in this State that need to be prosecuted as well. Let's get them so that we can actually get some of OUR money back! Good job so far, but remember waaaaayyyy back in your college days when the teacher said, "Work smarter, not harder." This isn't political is it?
I think it's absolutely uncalled for ..... blaming this on the poor somalians. I think we as a City should think about paying for a bus. After working 12hrs a day, I would like to volunteer my free time so that I can help the cause by driving a bus for free each night and on the weekends. Thank you for listening and try to be more respectful in the future;)
