Pension Debt

If state employee pensions are to be changed we should also allow state employees to contribute to the Federal Social Security system. As it stands they cannot now and the State penalizes them when and if they do collect on any moneys from a previous employer upon retirement.

When the S-J addresses Maine’s debt they should also remind Mainers that much of the debt is from crushing weight of bonds that Maine voters always pass every election. It appears that you don’t want your readers to look in the mirror and accept responsibility for their own actions. The people of Maine and this country have been borrowing for far too long and the time has come to do without if we can’t pay cash for it.

Let’s not pin all of the blame on Maine’s state retirees, bonds have permutated from necessary expenditures for example for infrastructure, to a means of funding any project that a vested interest wants whether it benefits the entire state or not and Mainers routinely vote them in. Reminding voters in bold print that every bond contributes to the debt would be a good responsible action on the part of the S-J.

Attempted Murder

The parents should lose everything they own for allowing these dirt balls to come to term and having brought them into the world raising them with these values I experienced the same thing only with me it was a brick from a Boston overpass and I know what Mr. Deschaine is going through. At least the Maine cops caught the scum; the Mass cops acted typically and tried to charge my wife with leaving the scene, a divided highway entering Logan. There’s nothing like seeing your 18 month old child covered in safety glass. They should be charged as adults and after they get out of prison one third of their income for life should go to the victim. One month after they hit us somebody did the same thing in the same spot and killed a woman. This crime should be attempted murder, there’s enough history behind this behavior to justify that charge.

No Boilers

Your taxpayer dollars at work. I guess we don't make boilers in America any more either.

Voter Realism

If voters in Maine were realistic they would not be voting in any and all bond issues that appear on every state-wide ballot. Instead they continue to borrow, borrow and borrow all the while wondering why the state’s debt can’t be reduced by furloughing state workers and not increasing a broader base sales tax aimed at the biggest draw on our economy, Tourism. While it may be Maine’s biggest industry the folks that come here from away contribute very little to the upkeep of the state’s infrastructure and use of state properties, eg. for one, I-95’s widening. Maine’s voters continue to borrow like there is no bill coming and wonder why we have so much debt. Vote down a few bonds Mainers. Just say “No”. You might do yourselves some good by attracting real industry to a state that has less debt and you won’t have to wait on tables or make beds while watching the latest industry head down a widened I-95 for the NH border.

Ethanol

Michaud thinks 10% Ethanol gas is the best thing since the wheel. He's lost my vote.

Rt. 26

Oh hum, just another accident on Rt. 26. Drivers speeding, falling asleep after a long weekend on the slopes, passing on a solid line, distracted, tailgating (not illegal in Maine), on the phone (not illegal in Maine) or texting (not illegal in Maine) it doesn't make any difference one sees it all too frequently. That route is one of the most dangerous in the state. Darn good thing nobody was decapitated this time. With the danger of the truckers and the Mass & New Hampshire drivers, delivering the mail on that road should include hazardous duty pay and a thank you from all that are served.

Pants

I couldn't help but notice the picture in this paper of the perp showed him wearing what most shop owners consider "shoplifter pants". I too didn't take too much stock in his appology.

Getting re-elected

I would respect Snowe and Collins much more if they would vote their conscience and show their integrity by voting for what they think is right (no play on words here) and what is right for Maine. I would sooner vote for them as an Independent or a Communist and see them go down with all flags flying rather than compromise their principles in order to be re-elected. Too many of these folks have lost any respect I’ve had for them by showing their hypocrisy, doing only what is necessary to be put back in office for another term. Running scared from a bunch of wealthy “Tea Baggers” who twist history and scream invective rather than produce honest constructive dialog at debates is not the way to get my vote. Show some integrity Senators, I may not like your votes in chambers but I will respect you more.

OK. If that will help, let's do it, particularly since the money

"OK. If that will help, let's do it, particularly since the money seems to be available." Why is everyone in such a hurry rushing to get into LA, tailgating all the way in and reluctantly leaving that the state taxpayers have to shell out money that could be spent on schools in towns that don't receive any state money for their schools. Frye Island residents, for example, take a serious screwing from the people of Maine, and they’re not all from away. Many people are in this position not only there but elsewhere and would just like to hold onto homes that they worked hard to build instead of helping add to the welfare of their fellow Mainers from higher property tax dollars and reduced state revenue sharing. Do we really have to line the pockets of the DoT and their contractors every time we have money available? Every other bond issue we vote on seems to be for roads, bridges and ferries. And they’re never voted down as they are packaged with something really needed. In these hard times caused by the Dick and George Depression how did that money become available? It sounds like someone is cooking the books and seriously malfeasant in their use of state tax dollars. Oh yeah, Baldy and Libby are still running the show and part and parcel to the some of the problem.

spelling, caps and puncutation in a blog

A typical response from a left wing Dimmycrat that can’t even use caps in a sentence. I know you aren’t talking about me but how is your response germane to the issue or do you just jab at people from your cushy desk, not knowing anything about them.
