The Constitution was written by Christians for Christian freedom, using the Holy Bible as their guild. When it was written the Christians who wrote it were not thinking about Hindu freedom or Muslim or any other religion other then Christian. They are benefiting by something that was written not with them in mind. That’s a beautiful thing and it gives them a chance to see how great it can be having religious freedom because of laws that were written for Christians by Christians. I support the President as we all should. He is OUR President , our country’s leader. I don’t agree with everything he does but I support him and so should the rest of the nation. I hated when Bush II went into Iraq stretching out our military. My son was sent over there and was in combat. He is still suffering from that physically and mentally. I didn’t like President Bush making those decisions but he was OUR president and I supported him too. This bi-partisan crap is for the birds and if you don’t think this is a Christian country, so is that thought. God bless America .
I don't always agree with you but you nailed it this time. I read nothing political in your message . Yes he used to live in Wilton. He is from Rumford and is a wonderful , kind even minded man. Bless you Tom
What a waste of time PETA is. Today they worry about the pain of a lobster being torn apart and this in a day when over 1500 abortions are done daily. Do the fetus's feel pain ?
Thank you Carlo for all the work you have done for our town.
As a town in Maine with a population under 5000 people, we have to adjust to that reality. ALL town departments should be reduced to meet that reality. When I was a kid we had a huge fire department with quite a few full time jobs. That department has been reduced over the years to match the towns population. The police department however had half the employees that we have now, back in the seventy’s. There were a lot of the same problems then as there are today. I feel with State and county coverage along with a much smaller local police force or even a combined police force ( Rumford, Mexico, and Dixfield ), we would have adequate coverage to keep our town as safe as it currently is.
Now comes the pay and benefit part of this issue. The town employee's benefits reflected and were always compared to the mill employee’s benefits. As a mill employee I know this to be a fact. So after 1986 how did that escape the bargaining table at contract time? We in the mill produce much more while getting much less. Jobs have been cut but not the work. Insurance has taken a big hit as well. I love my town and care very much for the people who work here for the town but we have to start acting like a town that has less than 5000 people or we will never grow. To grow we must attract other businesses and an over taxed town will not achieve that goal.
Your comment shows you are an anti-worker or you haven't got a clue. There is no in between. If you had to work for a living and you got hurt you would find out in a hurry that this state is screwing its injured workers worse then any other group. Protection?? What a joke.On full workers comp an employee recieves 80% of his base pay. If he has to hire a lawyer and the employer and their insurance company has is found at fault the employee not the insurance company or the employer has to pay the lawyer. That is usually one third of what the settlement is. The settlement isn't extra money , it is money the employee would have earned had he not been injured. This is base pay not an average of what would normally be earned when you include overtime. The employee is screwed double time he has to shell out money to the lawyer that he can't afford or risk loosing it all. The workers not the corporations are the backbone of this great country and by backing the greedy few you are helping screw the workers and proving the republicans are anti-workers.
Finding a fix sometimes means you should think outside the box. From the Morse bridge all the way to the top of Falls Hill, foot traffic is pushed to the river side of the road. The side where the only sidewalk is. Most foot and bicycle traffic going up the hill is going to the Virginia section of town. There is no sidewalk on that side of the road and there should be. I've seen many times, people walking to the store opposite the Information parking area, on the side of the road instead of using the sidewalk. Build a sidewalk. Make it safe and have proper drainage. It would cost more then shutting down the passing lane, but if that cost saved just one life, it would be worth every penny. While we're at it , put a crosswalk from the information parking lot to the store. At least people would have a better chance crossing the road there. The crosswalk at the top of the hill is dangerous a sidewalk going down the hill with a bicycle lane could be the answer.
Most of the tax payers in Roxbury are against the Industrial Wind Turbines. They are the camp owners that have properties closest to the wind farm. They pay most of Roxbury’s taxes and had no vote. Most of Roxbury’s voters live away from the pond and are not where they will see these eye sores that we all know are the most intrusive least effective way of generating electricity.
Mt.Blue was 9-2 . Had The League been divided like most of the Western Maine folks would like to see. Mt.Blue Leavitt and Mountain Valley would all be in the same division. Then maybe we would see these rankings changed a wee bit. When I coached AYF these areas played each other each year.
