Private

Consealed gun permits should remain confidential...period! Just because the liberals go off on a rant about firearms and the recent school shootings across the nation, doesn't mean they have the right to inhibit ALL gun owners. ALL of the states which had gun violence dominating the headlines are liberal left states.

King

I don't believe that it is only foreign 'say' swinging the wind turbines. The newly elected Sen. King, who has millions locked up in wind turbine energy, I am sure has something to do with placement of more turbines here in Maine. I don't like wind turbines because of the discomfort they create for those who live near them. As for placing them out at sea, I am certain that King has not researched it's effects to our wildlife in the ocean. Its all about money, folks! Our say matters little but if we were rich and would persuade those who could effect the decision with with money, you betcha wallet YOU would have say!

Gov't lies

You can bet if we are speaking of politics, it will be filled with lies and smoke and mirrors. It doesn't matter which party. It seems to be a pre-requesite to run as a politician. Why do we elect them? We all hate liars. Why elect them? As far as the job Gov. LePage is doing, I think he is one of the few politicians who is doing exactly what he said he was going to do, hence being truthful. Yet, so many are dissatisfied with the promises he is fulfilling. He is doing his job and balancing the budget. It's too bad that programs get cut however, the bottom line is he is teaching us to live within our means. When I was growing up (poor household mind you with both parents working), welfare was for food. Those who claimed poverty and wanted aid, did NOT have a car. So the Gov is realigning your values and you don't like it? He is doing what he said he was going to do and he is doing it very well! I commend him and a pat on the back, Gov Lepage!

Welfare

As an American, we do not oppose people coming to America for freedom. We just don't want your freedom to cost us more than we can afford. Same as for welfare. It is not that we conservative do not want to provide for those in need, we want to make sure we have enough in the bank to provide for you and your need must be sincere. When I was younger, I lived poor and never did I ask for welfare. I worked like a slave and saved every extra penny for my rainy day fund. Back in those days, after my living expenses were paid, except groceries, I had a mere $45 left for my children and myself. As I stoo in the grocery store, I thought.."How can I make the most of this for three people for a week?" Never once did the thought of cigerettes or alcohol or even cleaning products come into my picture. It was about food and survival. That is how each receipent of state funded programs needs to think. Basic need. If they need more than the basics, perhaps programs should be set in place for folks, like myself, to teach them how to do it instead of a hand-out! Mom always said priorities are: shelter, food, clothing and medical...everything else is an "I want" not an "I need".

Riverfront Island

As I read the pages of the plan for the riverfront in Lewsiton, I think the improved housing is great and bringing rails to Lewiston is a definite added plus. Once our guests get here, then what do they have to do? Okay boating is a good pre-thought and even better to hire folks who do this kind of stuff to provide "tours" from their boats on the river. How about fishing? What if our visitors do not like shopping? What's in it for the kids? I was raised in Lewiston and lived a great portion of my life there and as a Mom of two, I have to ask, "Why hasn't anyone done something really exciting for the kids to do in town?" How about a recreational park inside? Skate park? Amusement park? Do you realize how much money the town would make with just those two things?
Housing. I think if housing is going to be successful, our Somalian population would need to improve their store fronts and provide a more American retail experience and still offer their products. Just a few ideas as a former resident of Lewiston.

Truth is difficult for some

Amen David! Furthermore allow me to add fuel to this fire. Battery operated vehicles. As our President tries to encourage the use of battery operated cars, I have to ask, "what do they do with the spent fuel cells (batteries)? Are we going to be a nation of spent fuel cells grave yards, much as toxic as nuclear waste sites? I think for every liberal who thinks ethanol is good and advocates for it, should be forced to use it! And for the same liberal who is in favors of battery powered vehicles, store their used cells in their backyard. After all, we must take responsibilty for our actions and decisions in life!
