They are in jail for a reason! Gross sexual assault, murder etc. I am sure they feel bad, that they got caught. You should move to Cali. or Colorado I believe you be much happier there. Prison is a PUNISHMENT, invest in the good people who would love the opportunity for a FREE COLLEGE EDUCATION. You bleeding hearts are all the same, it is too late for them to feel sorry, they should have thought before they raped robbed and murdered, we are not talking about people who forgot to pay a few parking tickets here. Free phones, free debit card, entitlement attitude is showing.
You should ask the families of the victims how they feel when their murdered child never had the opportunity to attend college, or the rape victim who needs counseling for the rest of her life how she feels?
Just does not seem right. I understand it is donated money, but it is bad enough that the tax payers have to house them and pay for everything else, medical etc. these people committed serious crimes against for the most part good honest hardworking people and families, so now they get out someday and the State will help them also take a job from some good honest hard working family who has struggled to pay for their own education and everything else. Just seems to me that it is sending the wrong message, if you want a free education go to jail and get job placement assistance when you get out. Buffet should have donated the money to the families of the victims, the ones who are going to be suffering the rest of their lives not by rewarding some convict!
How all New England States are "In 1995, Maine's benefits ranked 13th highest All of the New England states were in the top 15." and all New England States vote Dem. seems to be the norm. As long as people can "collect" more then if they work why should they work? Start screening all parts of the system for drug use and start taking benefits away for life when people willingly and knowingly scam the system, start having DHHS take the kids from the families that are not taking care of them properly. Stop making it so easy for folks to make a career out of playing the system, and start holding the people who do the screening and follow ups accountable, then we might see a decline. But until changes are made it is going to be an open buffet for everyone.
$921. is approx. 6 months property tax on an average home in Livermore falls. Yet the Select board who I thought was there to look out for the best interest of the PEOPLE decide to go with the Higher Bid. All the work if and when the new cruiser needed any could have been done at the local dealership! Did the board even ask the dealership if they would match the LOWEST bid? The dealer ship already has the maintenance contract for all the School Bus.
Then why do we have a Bid process if they are not going to follow it? This surely looks like this deal was not made on the up and up.
Why shop local when the dealership was the highest?
The Board is always asking the Police Dept. to reduce their budget and then squanders the tax money, is this responsible leadership?
Again I hope the voters remember this when we are voting "again" on the town budget that they are bringing back to the voters at the same amount, no reductions at all. Just remember that the Town has bottomless pockets and does not consider saving money as "responsible".
Kind of Paper the BDN is. Lets see if they stand by a slanderous, hear say story or they fire the slanderous fact twisting reporter. I personally hope the Gov. sues the papers that ran the story before verifying the "FACTS" . People need to be held accountable for their actions, hopefully the BDN will make an example of this and try and re-gain the trust of the public, (ya know the people who make their paychecks possible). Time will tell, but I have a feeling it will just be kept silent......
Why should he, if he did not say it then why should he stoop to the level of that reporter ? The paper is the one making the charges, if the ones that " told the reporter the story do not have any proof other then hear say and will not even defend what they said then how credible can they be? We supposedly had the right to face our accuser don't we?
But you will not get any support from the liberal lazy democrats unless it is in their favor. And yes I do believe that the BDN would be capable of fabricating a "news" story, after all look at the "buzz" that it has caused already. This type of reporting as sad as it may be is how the BDN makes its payroll. Truth is no longer needed just a good "anonymous" source.
I hope the Gov. puts a team of lawyers on this and demands the BDN to show the proof. This "alleged person" did not take any video or recordings?? News Papers are out of control, they are slanderous and seem to be about pushing their political slant on the public. The Gov. should sue the reporter individually along with the NEWS PAPERS that run this type of crap for slander, defamation and whatever else they can think of. Start holding these "news creator" responsible, on a story like this, which is obviously an attack at the Govs. job, the reporter , and whom ever decides to run these unconfirmed attacking stories should at the very least be fired if they can not show actual proof.Everything now a days is about making money, or pushing political thinking on the public, what ever happened to integrity? Have all the media sources lost the "facts only" pride. It is sad that we can not believe what we read or watch on TV because the media no longer require actual verification of their "spin" on the "facts". This is a totally disgusting display of Journalism at best. Liberal media bashing at it again.
We consolidated our schools so the taxpayers could save some money. Then we were told our children would not all fit in the existing system, so we needed an addition. Now we are keeping the old high school open, so are we the taxpayers gong to have to keep the building heated, plowed and maintained or is the State going to take it over for us? Who would fund all the upgrades needed, would it be local taxes? This community can not afford our taxes to keep going up, why not sell the building and let a private investor possibly do these things that way it would be back on the tax role. Was this part of the plan when we had all those committees looking into consolidating? Also what about staffing in this "new adventure" who will pay for them? Donate the building to a non profit group and let them fund it and do as they choose, we do not need anymore headaches with the School Dept.
Bob, lets be fair, should the people who live in other parts of Maine have to pay for the Raises that "my community" votes for the School here?? That burden should be put on the local tax payer, and yes I do own my own home. To many times at meetings the boards refer to State money as "free money" and that is not responsible management. If the Towns have to start being responsible and taxpayers have to start paying more then maybe more people would get involved and budgets would be brought back to reasonable budgets. All to often they always present local budgets as " we only have to pay this percent and the State will pay the rest" that is not fair or is it right. Garland , Houlton, Fort Kent should not have pick up "generosity" of say Portland or Kittery, where is the incentive for any Towns to be frugal? Voting for Michaud is like voting huge pay raises for all the State workers and teachers union in Maine, and guess who pays that, us the middle class working citizen. So expand your welfare system, and back all the Unions and then do not cry when your property taxes go even higher.
