So In a five year period this trooper has used deadly force twice. Is this guy unlucky or trigger happy? I am interested to find out. If it is the later he should get a good look at the other side of the criminal justice system. What are the odds in rural Maine of one officer's life coming under threat requiring a deadly response two separate times in just 5 years?
Let's leave motorcyclists alone and allow adults to make their own decision, whether you might make a different one or not. Let's get rid of the seatbelt law and do the same. While I think sharing ideas and educating others is great, the belief that imposing onto others to take actions even minimal to protect them from themselves and their own decisions is self-important at best, even God allowed people free will. If the author is concerned about the need for a helmet or seatbelt by all means wear one but let other's live their own lives making their own decisions free from aggressive interference from the state. I will never understand the do-good busy bodies who want to save everyone else from themselves.
Volunteer-Somebody who works for nothing: somebody who works without being paid.
Taxing someone to provide compensation would negate them being "volunteers", no?
What do people think a minimum wage rate increase will accomplish? Current minimum wage effects about 4% of the labor force with the majority of those earning at or below minimum wage being under 25. What happens to the mainer earning $10 or $11 an hour when the costs of goods and services increase without their wages rising? Is 13 years of compulsory education just not enough to educate the children, we really need to get started a year earlier? Is the problem that the government has not intervened enough in recent years? Moved from 9.7 trillion debt at the end of 07 to a current 16.5, had QE1, QE2, QE3, now QE infinity with a fed rate under .25% for the last 4 years, the outstanding federal student loan balances exceed 1 trillion but if we just spend more it will be ok. Give me a break.
I do agree with you that the government has a duty, a duty to protect both your rights from me infringing them and my rights from you infringing them it does not have a duty to defend me from me or you from you. The stats I was adressing showed how a gun owner themselves are at a higher risk and the government has no role in protecting an individual from risk imposed on themselves by choice.
"There has never been a tyrant in control of an army overthrown by a home arsenal anywhere in the world." You may be overlooking a little thing called the revolutionary war.
"As for tyrants taking away guns that is false also." Just plain wrong see Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Mousolini etc.
"The statistics I'm reading say that if you own a gun you are 30 times more likely to get shot and 10 times more likely to commit suicide by than if you don't" Sounds like there might be some risks to the gun owner associated with the decision of owning a gun. Government is not the peoples parents and should not endeavor to protect them from their own decisions.
A couple of differences between the militia act and obamacare(feel free to correct me if I am wrong). The militia act had to do with defense, one of the federal governments enumerated powers. I do not believe there was ever a challenge of the constitutionality of the militia act of 1791 so for you to deem it constitutional is taking some liberties.
"US Constitutional Government is the only human institution where checks and balances minimize or eliminate human imperfection". Which part of that constitution gives the power to force all citizens to give their money to a private company?
More important than what happens to him is what are those kids of his learning? No matter my effort or my drive everything will be ok government's got it? If I want nothing more than survival then I must do nothing more than exist?
To give a "layabout" a free ride is not only disrespectfull to the productive who pay for it, but also to future generations that learn working to get by is for suckers when you can get by for free.
This shows that we don't always need the government in order to help people and it is good to see the money helping people directly and not being passed through a couple of greesy palms first.
Mitt Romney got essentially the same amount of the vote that he got in 2008 if not less. The only state that Romney has had a gain in over 2008 is Florida. With the amount of time and money Romney has spent campaigning I think the numbers that have come out of these first 5 contests shows Romney is not increasing his support at all, which is a bad sign for republicans who want to defeat Obama. If he cant win people over in his own party with mass expenditures how exactly will he win people over in the general election?
