I don't really like the whole verification system - I get the idea of the need behind it, but like others have said, people get horrible on here when it comes to disagreements, and why give those crazies access to your full name?? That is just asking for trouble.
What the SJ should do is keep the verified info to themselves - make sure they have the person's name and phone number on file for THEIR records, but allow screen names to still be our choice and let us hide our personal info, like our full names, if we choose. What is the point of showing our full names to everyone who comments on here? As long as the SJ has the info, that should be enough.
And last time I checked, the L/A area isn't the most upstanding place as of late ... let's see, we've had two armed standoffs and a drive by shooting in the last WEEK ... yeah, I want to give my name out to someone I'm having a disagreement with over politics and such ... I don't think I'll be getting verified or commenting much longer.
But the bikers are the ones being hit the hardest!!
The very first line of this editorial:
"Is it just our imagination, or have there been fewer really loud motorcycles ripping up the roads this summer?"
This law ISN'T JUST ABOUT MOTORCYCLES - so why is everyone slamming on the bikers?? There are just as many people with souped-up cars that are loud, or have loud stereos that can shake you right out of bed, but no one is mentioning THOSE - why not? Why is it all about the big bad bikes?
They throw in the one little line "The new law makes it easier for police to cite vehicles — not just motorcycles", then they go right back to complaining about the bikes ... I am so tired of the one-sided and biased commentaries and reporting by the SunJournal.
I have several family members buried there, and the last few times I have visited the grave sites, the ones which are inlaid into the ground were almost completely overtaken by grass and weeds. I've called also to ask where another relative was because we could not locate the plot, and it was very hard to get in touch with someone, and when I did, it seemed that from talking to them, the records were very out of order.
I also don't see how the board can call this woman a "troublemaker", seeing as how she has collected 118 signatures of people with similar views. Maybe someone should get the state involved, seeing that the town will not step up. Or contact the Maine Old Cemetery Association and see if they could help.
It states right in the article that the public can NOT attend the meetings. The cemetery association is also no longer making the reports available. Which leads me to ask, what are they trying to hide??
You are joking, right? A civil suit? This is an event that benefits many people in this community ... you have a few months to plan a new route to work for a couple of days!
Was I the only one who saw Sunday's paper, which had the list of 106 MAINE BASED RELIGIOUS OFFICIALS - pastors, clergymen, reverends, etc., from all different faiths, urging people to VOTE NO on QUESTION 1?? If the men who lead these churches are standing behind gay marriage, why are so many of you using religion as a reason to vote against it?
And besides, what ever happened to separation of church and state? They are voting on a bill, people, not trying to rewrite the bible. And on that note, I believe that much of the bible is open to interpretation, anyway - I've seen so many people of the same faith read the same passage and explain it in many different ways. Who are WE to say we KNOW for SURE what GOD WANTS?
Put yourself in their shoes ... how would you feel if your rights were taken away?
Notice that all of her "statistics" come from a Catholic website, and we all know where the Catholic church stands on gay marriage. How about some statistics from a neutral source?
I agree about the private information ...
