Love the comment by Steve DiMillo! He's absolutely correct. Let's stop trying to be "first in the nation" with "historic" and "unprecendented" regulations...they aren't always a good thing, despite the use of those now overused words.
Nutting is a bully. Remember his treatment of the hospitals when they dared speak out against the State for not paying the bills it owed them? Now, he's engaged in character assassination of someone who seems like a fine young man, whether or not I or others agree with his opinions. If I were in Nutting's district, I would have relished voting against him; I say thank you to the 70% of those voters in his district that did so! Finally, one of the entrenched Dems gone. I saw Nutting's ad in the weekend SJ in which he was "thanking" his supporters; it was pretty pathetic. Good editorial SJ.
Deb Simpson. Peggy Rotundo. Margaret Craven. Dick Wagner. While I'm sure they are all nice people, they have been in the Legislature for FAR too long and, along with other revolving seat Democrats, have helped bring our State to the sad condition it is in today. Borrow, tax, spend...calling all spending an "investment", which most of it clearly is not. This State has got to reduce its spending and lower taxes (and regulations) to attract businesses that offer good paying jobs and benefits, which will allow citizens to have a higher standard of living. This will be a huge challenge for the next Governor and Legislature as they grapple the underfunded State employee pension system in addition to the always-present, never-ending State budget problems. A final point: how has the constant re-election of Simpson, Rotundo, Craven, and Wagner helped L-A? I have never seen any great benefit to our area because of their seniority in the party that has ruled this State for the past 40 years.

While I was pleasantly surprised that the SJ endorsed Jason Levesque over the forever-in-government Mike Michaud, I am not at all surprised by its endorsement of Eliot Cutler. It's the safest choice; the paper will not be labeled radically right or radically left by endorsing Cutler. But please, Eliot Cutler is no independent. Like Angus King, he is a devout Democrat who was never going to get the party's nomination so he labelled himself an independent in order to run for Governor. And I agree with Bob Stone and K0N above: the SJ is unfair and did a disservice to its readers by calling Paul LePage a bully. Any proof of that? While he may be blunt and "unpolished" (which is refreshing, quite frankly), that does not make him a bully. I would expect more appropriate wording from the editorial board.
You suggest Michaud's "experience" is a good thing? Our State might do much better with a little less of Michaud's, Mitchell's. et. all "experience". And, I'm not a Republican.

Libby Mitchell is a significant part of the great problems our State faces, having been in politics for the past 40 years, much of it in the Legislature. Vote No for Libby Mitchell.
In choosing between hometown Jason Leveque or Mike Michaud, who has been in State and Federal government FOREVER, I'll choose Levesque. I can see beyond his driving offenses to what he would attempt to accomplish in Congress.
