Last spring when this new system was announced the LSJ quoted the city has saying only 20-24% of people recycled and a savings plan was needed. Now it says 30% do. What is the real number? I, for one, find the two week pickup plan to be difficult and wind up recycling a little less as a result. And with a 3 week delay, like this month was, it become almost impossible to recycle everything. The city then states that recycling is down 15% (gee, could my above reasons effect others?) but that THAT number is meaningless. So c'mon Auburn, just what numbers ARE real and meaningful.

Absolutely not. I met all regulations by LHS and MeSHA. Had regular inspections by both parties and still they would not send section 8 parties my way. I was always told "there wasn't any more money" to send people my way. I also suspect that you have NOT actually viewed all available vacancies. I took great pride in my two apartment buildings while I had them and resent anyone that implies otherwise. I think you will find that all LALA apartments have met LHA, Fire, Code enforcement, etc, inspections on an annual inspection and are either in compliance or have been shut down. So LHA and MeSHA doesn't have money but we the people will subsidize non-profits so that they have the money. Remember that when your taxes go up again.

The LSJ should check with the Lewiston Auburn Landlord Association as to how much available housing they have. I think you all might be surprised. Not only is there a large amount of housing in the area but LALA landlords are open to section 8 housing. Why should the general public be footing the bill for subsidized housing when there is already available housing not being taken advantage of? As a former Landlord, I found that Lewiston Housing Authority was not helpful in filling my vacancies no matter how many hoops I jumped through. Subsidized Housing such as talked about in this article does NOT generate taxes. Private Landlords DO.

"With the exception of six members who voted to have the union remain neutral in the sheriff’s race, the vote to endorse Samson was unanimous, according to a press release sent out Wednesday night."
Obviously someone does not understand the term "unanimous".

Using the official Maine web site, I have tried to e-mail this Representative. At least 2 of his 4 e-addys are no good and are kicked back. Reachable representative.

Hey Jo, attend a meeting or ask some informed people. You will find that among other things, the entire school roof is in need of repair. This is hardly what I call "cleaning the place with elbow grease and paint".

It never ceases to amaze me how people that break the law always seem to know all the ins and outs of the law. Once again we are privelaged to see that people refuse to except responsibilty for their actions. As Calyssa930 stated, what would have happened if an innocent party had been involved?

This woman has already sued the insurance company and decided to settle. If she wanted more money she should have continued her suit. She should not be allowed to sue other entities after already collecting on one suit for this incident. What next after Auburn? I think she should sue the student that shot the puck. How about sue the manufacturers of the game equipment? Let's sue the estate of whoever invented the game.
C'mon. This woman is sue happy and willing to get money anywhere she can.
Stores often post names of people that cannot buy with checks or credit cards that are proven to be no good. This woman should be posted at all Hockey arenas with a warning not to allow her in.

This editorial fails to prove
This editorial fails to prove to me why this is a good thing. How does my taxes go down if I pay-per-bag while recycling goes away?
Oh wait....I see. My taxes go up while I pay-per-bag and some body claimes to do the reycling.

Tron is right, if they aren't ready now then they never will be. Also, what good is a forum to debate Q's 2 and 4 AFTER we have already voted on them?
