Don't believe everything you read, mon ami. Two internet links does not make a fact. Take a trip to your local zoo or boa breeder and I'm sure you will see that none of them are over 10 feet in length (if that). I would still recommend that two people handle a snake that big (they can be heavy!), but they are hardly lethal. Unless you're a tasty rat, that is.
I love when newspapers fact check SO thoroughly!
- Boa constrictors do not grow to 17 or even 14 feet. 10 is a stretch; most are 5-7 feet.
- Boa constrictors are no danger to people. They are hardly lethal and I am unaware of any human death caused by a boa constrictor.
- Most captive Burmese Pythons are around the 17 foot mark, but are not aggressive.
- Burmese Pythons (and Boa Constrictors, for that matter), are more likely to be aggressive as babies than as adults.
- Saying that because a boa escaped snakes should be illegal is like that saying that dogs should be illegal because one got out of the yard and ran around the neighbourhood, not even biting anyone.
- The plural of "boa" is "boas", not "boa's".
- I do agree that giant pythons (Burmese pythons, Reticulated pythons, anything capable of growing to 16 feet - boa constrictors are not capable and are thus not included here) should be illegal.
