A.) Seat belts saves lives, by enforcing seat belt law and preventing serious injury accidents their actually keeping insurance rates down, saving money for millions of people.
B.) If you have such little respect, trust and confidence in your local police department that you think they sit in the office 24 hours a day, 7 days a week than you need to go to your selectmen and explain this because if this is true than it would be one of the states largest law enforcement scandals in Maine, however its not true at all is it.
C.) The D&D jokes get vvveeerrryyy old after a while, seriously when was the last time you saw a cop with a donut in hand, perhaps you think that because he is holding a D&D coffee that he has automatically eaten donuts too? Trust me, you have eaten more donuts this week than most police officers have.
D.) Seat Belt tickets are 70 bucks, not 250
Why is it when someone writes an editorial about police work, everyone and their cousin jumps on the police as lazy, donut eating goofs who do nothing to serve the public? Everyone here speaks with absolute certainty but I'm guessing you actually have no idea what goes on with one of these details and truth be told you probably don't care as long as your not the one getting ticketed. If you have departments in your town that act the way you describe, I'm extremely sorry for you are being short changed. Well, I guess Ill see if I can get up out of this chair and finish my donut in time to get to your complaint next time you call.

My God! Who cares about this BS. Arguing about a muslim community center in New York City? Really? How about arguing about our burning economy, or, oh I don't know, something a little more pressing and important to our country. People need to grow up and stop fighting over all of this measly garbage. I tell you what, when we fix everything els thats wrong with this country then we can re-visit this issue and see if it's as important as we all once thought.

The unfortunate truth is that on a busy day not every single call can be attended to. Just because a police cruiser does not have its lights and siren activated does not mean its not on its way to a call, and no offense but most any other call a police officer gets is going to trump a call where an officer has to tail a dog down the block or get out and confront it. Do we know if an ACO was called or was not called? No. Do we know what that officer was doing or where he was going? No. There are a lot of factors that could have contributed to the officer not stopping and confronting just one more stray dog in Lewiston. Oh and for the future, rather than slam on your breaks or swerve around a cat or dog that's in the roadway, just run it over. The life of a dog or cat is not worth a human injury or death. Food for thought.

You have done it. You have uncovered the hideous truth. Obama is secretly brainwashing all of our nations elementary school children in order to somehow create a secret liberal army. Somewhere in his rambling about doing good in school and working hard was a secret code word, right? It really does sicken me to see that people have gotten this wound up about their own agendas that they can actually let themselves yank their kids out of school for a whole day because they don't want their child to watch the president on TV. You better unplug your tv, radio and start homeschooling because it looks like your going to be in for a rough 4 years.

Unfortunately, as much as I want nationalized health care in the U.S. I have to say that the Netherlands (Holland) does not have nationalized health care and in fact they have a very competitive private health care system. Although 'yes' no one can be denied insurance for any reason, they still have to pay for it via premiums, taxes etc. Some care is provided by the government, but most hospital visits there require private insurance.

My wife's a teacher so believe me when I say that being a teacher is a much harder job than most make it out to seem 9at least from what I see and hear). The stress and pressure of the responsibility over a child's education must be overwhelming, its beyond my imagination. Are teachers under-paid? Yes. Even if you look at it from an outside perspective, the amount of time, money, education, training and certification in order to even become a teacher doesn't even remotely balance out with the salary's in which they get paid, so in the end I see absolutely no argument.

All sarcasm aside, Jay is a very nice, peaceful town where many honest gun owners do live and work not unlike myself. It all boils down to the fact that the majority of gun owners in Maine and all across the U.S. are in fact honest, good people who have not used said guns in the commitment of any crimes. There are those who use guns to kill, rob etc. in our country, but would they not have killed robbed etc. with some other weapon or obtained an illegal firearm (which can be obtained anywhere, even in countries with very strict gun laws) if they did not have access to a gun? I understand both arguments, "guns are bad, blah blah blah", and I also understand the other side, "pry it from my cold dead fingers, blah blah blah", but there has to be some compromise and/or middle ground. People who drink and drive are arguably just as dangerous as a loaded gun. However people have come to realize and accept the inherent dangers of drinking alcohol and driving cars, and there is certainly no modern, current nationwide rally to ban alcohol or driving. So whats the answer? I believe people do have the right to own firearms and people should learn the inherent risks of owning such weapons. You can ban guns, but you cant ban murder or crime. And lay off of Jay, the air may be a little ripe in the early morning but it's still nice town.

I do not in the least bit believe that our dispatch center is inexperienced, under trained or any combination of the two. At any rate, if the calling party fails to give accurate directions to a fire than how can we expect our fire dept. to respond accurately to the location? Maybe I am wrong, but I do not see the county at fault, rather an unfortunate set of circumstances of bad information and yes, technology that probably (like all other technology) could be improved.
