The passing of Joe Perham, my dad who passed at the age of 92 loved Joe's tales of Maine, On his birthday I would always gift him with a few of Joe's cassettes. he would play them over and over, whenever a visitor would stop in, he would take them in to listen and laugh to every story Joe related to. Rest in Peace Joe, and thank you for the humor you rewarded my dad and others with
If I remember correctly, King was against the Sales Tax reduction, took it to the Maine Supreme Court, hoping to get a ruling that would delay the implementation for one year till 1999, allowing him time to kill any reduction at all, much like the Income Tax two years earlier. Fortunately, the court upheld the law, allowing the reduction in 1998
Although I can make a attachment to what the Governors' mind set was when making the Gestapo reference, I felt that they were a poor choice of words. The same conclusion I had when State Senator, Democrat Dawn Hill referred to Republicans as Nazis, when dealing with the Maine Care cuts required in order to balance the budget. Democrat Representative Chuck Kruger comparing Vice President Chaney to Saddam Hussein, twittering that he would like to witness a live streaming of Chaney being hung for his amusement. Where's the apologies from them for their choice of words? Where's the coverage of this on the news? Why is Minority Leader Emily Cain and Democrat Justin ( voting rights for non-citizens) Alphonds silent on these poor choice of words? Expect nothing but the sounds of crickets when it is one of their own who crosses the line. The liberal hypocrisy of the left is so apparent
"creating jobs is more complex than simply eliminating the tax responsibilities of your highest earners", that statement must have had tingles flowing up the legs of all the Democrats at the convention, Maryland, under the leadership of Governor O'Malley, increased taxes 23%, is #1 in the nation for job losses, and ranks 44th on the list as business friendly. All outstanding results, that Maine Democrats will work hard for.
was there any reduction to Administration? The Head Start program is still receiving $45,000,000 in funding. Tax breaks for what millionaires? Despite fiscal hard times, LePage increased Education Funding $60,000,000, he's is all about supporting programs that put children first, not the administrators.
Gary, the "rich" in Maine under the Democrats' definition are citizens whose incomes range higher than $18,000 to be taxed in the highest bracket, yet deemed poor enough to be eligible for most Social Programs paid by the taxpayers. Go figure!
In my opinion, the Democrats are irresponsible for turning a Social Program intended to help the extreme poor, elderly and disabled, into a insurance program for all who apply. What other states offer to pay for working adults with no children? What other states pay for nineteen and twenty years old adults? Why should taxpayers in Maine be held liable for a program that offers benefits 60% more than the national average, while Federal funds have been cut way back ? We are still in debt to the hospitals for over $500,000,000, The budget will still cover Maine Care cost covering over 300,000 plus citizens, while eliminating 21,000. What was the Democrat's budget plan put into the hands of some members on the Appropriations Committee, with the insistence not to be made public? Why? I would assume it was full of tax hikes, which may seem very unpopular during a election year. We need politicians who will tackle the problems head first, make the hard decisions, without kicking the problems down the road for the next Legislature. We finally have one!
Frank, if it's only a few bucks, than why don't you pay for it ? it's YOUR FATHER, Take care of him. my 87 years old mother was embarrassed when she discovered that she was automatically placed on a social program without being notified that paid for her prescriptions, when she had purchased a insurance program years ago, that covered that.
I would strongly suggest that any reopening is dependent on all kitchen employees receive training in Food Handling, and be required to obtain a Serv -Safe Certificate. Than any renovations would have a requirement that the kitchen is on view to the public, that all food temps be documented on a hourly basis, all cold storage areas temps. be documented twice daily along with dish water temps. That food disposal areas, along with cooking and prep areas are sanitized. Than unannounced inspections in the furure
LePage has obviously put thought in opposing more borrowing by bonds, before getting our fiscal house in order by reducing spending and paying present obligations first. Despite paying over $200,000,000 to our hospital bill, we still owe close to $500,000,000! The argument that bonding leads to jobs is a fallacy, if that was true considering all the borrowing Maine has done, our unemployment rate should be near zero. It seems like every few years we borrow millions for infrastructure projects, yet it is still in horrible shape. Maine needs to free up some cash flow, get out of debt, and stop borrowing money that must be paid back with interest before we dig the hole any deeper.
