Spelling error. I can never spell his name right. It could be Freudian but I don't know. The House is the one to fund the process to send the children home. If it don't happen there it won't happen anywhere.
The news these days is so depressing even videos of cute puppies doesn't help. There is the nauseating sight of the mess in the Ukraine with shooting down a passenger airliner then desecrating the bodies of the victims and impeding the investigation along with Putin's conspiracy theories. Then there are the pictures of those poor children at the border being herded into camps and screamed at by right wingers. Then there is Gaza and 80 children and a hospital blown to bits with our weapons and talk of fuel and medicine embargoes and tunnels and burning a teen-ager alive. UGH. But then the world is heaping disgust on Putin and the terrorists as it should. Massachusetts has offered to harbor some of the children while they wait to be processed as they should and even Netanyahu is feeling some pressure internally and in the UN as he should. The silver lining is pretty thin but I guess it is there.
Was my solution. They should be processed and returned but something needs to be done about those drug gangs in Central America that are providing the incentive for them to leave. If we can spend trillions arming Israel to the teeth we could do something about those guys. It would be a long term solution instead of going out and preventing buses from entering your town with a bunch of kids on them.
Bohner announced last week that Congress will not be discussing this problem this month because they are too busy collecting the campaign funds those border pictures are generating. OK that last part was my take on it but he did say nothing is happening in Congress. They won't even discuss it. So don't worry about your Maine delegation.
What is really petty is the governor refusing to meet with other governors because they are democrats and he doesn't have time to listen to their "chit chat". He is too busy listening to self proclaimed rebels without a brain.
I did not see your solution as to what to do with the children when they are already here and waiting to be sent back. You are worried about the wrong thing. If a wolf chases a rabbit into your house it isn't the rabbit you should be worrying about. Those children are about as powerless and helpless as any person on earth. They cannot hurt you or your country. The people who are driving them in this direction however will eventually follow them here and those guys you should be worried about. They are the kind of murderers who will chop up a child who refused to join their gang and leave the body so others will fear them. They are the kind of gangs the police and army are too afraid to confront.
I did not mischaracterize and your Mr. Right is plenty dramatic. When you say the level YOU deem appropriate it would seem that the rest of the voters don't get to deem. You are the only one that does even though the rest of us have to live here too.
It isn't about being right it is about being in control. No matter how much disorder, sickness, suffering, poverty spreads through our communities by short sighted, bull headed, just plain dumb policy so long as the right people are in control.
So Ms. Maheu says Maine Care is finally solvent. That's like saying I cleaned out the car, washed and polished it and now it's finally perfect. However, I have no money to put gas in it so it will have to stay in the driveway. What's the point in having a solvent DHHS if sick people are going without life saving care??? Paying less for unsatisfactory services is no bargain. It is like the money we shelled out for a taxi company that didn't show up to provide rides. How is that a bargain? I also see no validity in a statistic that says expanding Medicare will cost the state 800 million dollars in ten years while admitting that no cost savings have been included in that figure. You may as well have guessed 4,ooo million and it would be as accurate. How can you say that 80.000 people receiving preventative care will cost more than the same number getting nothing but emergency room care? How can you say that thousands of people getting their mental health care in prison is cheaper than paying for it through insurance? She says she is perplexed. I think it is way worse than that.
I think the point of all these percentages is to say that rich people pay more taxes than poor people. I think that is just fine and you seem to disagree. I also think your figures are misleading. Yes the rich pay a lot but you are ignoring just how massive is income disparity in this country. It is the same as when you read somewhere that Microsoft paid a ten million dollar fine. You think wow that is a lot of money but for them it is Friday morning's profit. There isn't a month that goes by that the top 1% aren't devising a new way to avoid paying taxes and to screw the taxpayer by getting the government to subsidize their responsibilities in some way or by bribing legislatures to deregulate something that allows them to steal, pollute or abuse employees.
