So

Thanks to all this moral high ground you are OK with funding all this morality to the tune of 3 billion American tax dollars a year? And add to that the weapons we are selling to Oman, Iraq, Qatar, the United Arab Republic, Yemen, etc. many of which end up in Palestinian hands is OK by you? It doesn't seem to you that everybody loses in this game except the politicians getting money from lobbyists and the guys who make the weapons?

Due processing

Is called for in the law. Actually a book of mostly self contradicting laws 2000 pages long passed by Congress. Not that I think all that much of what Congress thinks but it is the law of the land according to the Constitution. It is intended to find the difference between refugees who seek shelter against death threats and immigrants not that it matters all that much to some people. As long as they are the wrong color they don't need no processing. So illegal would be sending them back without processing.

CLAIRE GAMACHE's picture

Precisely

And who made up this 2000 page process? It was not Obama. It was the guys who are so afraid immigrants will vote for the other side that they have put as many obstacles in the process not to make it easier but to make it impossible. It was the guys who are crazy enough to demand deportation of all the millions of folks who are here undocumented thanks to this stupid process regardless of what it does to families and to other human beings. I cannot help but think the mess was deliberately created to make sure that immigrants not only don't vote for the other side but do not have access to worker protections or upward mobility. I have to laugh when I hear people say they will take our jobs. If you can't beat a guy in a job interview who is homeless, has never been to school and doesn't speak English then you have more to worry about than the state of immigration in this country.

Immigration problem

Sure everybody wants to fix the immigration problem except Congress evidently. They have come up with a Band-Aid that would sent in the National Guard and send kids home without due processing which will not get passed before they go on a five week vacation. Their plan is to work a whole 14 days in the next 4 months. But not to worry. They can point to the president playing golf and they have spent the last 10 years not dealing with the problem so this little publicity stunt to bring home to the voters will be just fine. Fixing the "immigration problem" will not happen because we send home everyone who is here illegally. It will not happen because we sent untrained vigilantes and national guard troops who know nothing of that 2000 page immigration law handbook to the border. It will not happen so long as our immigration policy has for its first aim to prevent immigration while creating a class of cheap undocumented workers. It will not happen so long as the issue is all about media image and blaming Obama and not about intelligent substance. It will happen when people who care more about their country than their side or their wallet find a practical, realistic and humane solution.

Lopsided

Everything in your letter is true but you are showing us a one legged cowboy. Israelis just hate killing civilians but Hamas is making them do it ? Sounds like the guy who is beating his wife saying she made him do it because she disrespected him. Hamas hates Israelis and wants to see them all dead? I would say the evidence shows that Israelis hate Palestinians every bit as much and want to see them all dead also. Evidence is embargo of fuel, food, water and medicine, restricting movement out of areas being bombed making the warning shot a joke and today over a million people crowded into a target zone with no food, water, electricity or medical care. If they were cats and dogs the world would be outraged. Killing civilians to achieve political ends is what terrorists do. I would say they are terrorists on both sides. It is like listening to somebody on trial for molesting children give the excuse that he was abused as a child. One doesn't excuse the other. Israelis have better publicity , having destroyed the other side's stations and they have way better weapons, thanks to the American tax payer but they don't get the moral high ground on that basis.

Poor people

So Lewiston is preparing to demonstrate their contempt for poor people and to support a special interest group that seems to have gained control of city hall. Who are poor people anyway? As I see it they are often single mothers, immigrants and students. Sometimes they are the elderly and the disabled. I don't really understand why we don't want any of those people here when for the most part their poverty is temporary and they shop in our stores and eat in our pizza shops, sometimes start up businesses, graduate and become tax paying citizens, raise kids who go on to college and come back to work in our hospitals etc.,. Sure the building will only give us $30,000 a year more in tax money than the blight of empty lots we have now but it would also give us more citizens. I do not accept for one moment that the empty lots and Xed out buildings will attract vibrant downtown development. It sure has not worked that way anywhere else. What attracts development is a plan and investment and there is no reason this could not be part of that plan.

Proof

In fact proof is what is missing. Several times when Israel has made these claims and said they could prove it their proof turned out to be wrong, manufactured or non existent. It has come to light, for example, that Hamas did not kill the three Israeli teen-agers that started this whole thing. It was a separate group that does not answer to Hamas. Of course you will not hear that from Israel. They got their headline so all is good. I saw their last video they offered as proof. It was so grainy you could have been looking at an elephant or a school and it was UNDATED. They claim rockets are being fired from UN schools and the people from the UN who were in those buildings said no rockets were fired from there. I wouldn't go so far as to say Hamas has never fired a rocket from an ambulance or a hospital but so far no conclusive proof has been offered and for passionate Zionists no proof is needed. In any case it is pretty depraved to bomb hospitals, ambulances and shelters and to embargo medicine fuel, and food to millions of people and to keep them imprisoned on a spit of land which by the way has decreased in size by 40 % in the last week. If the situation were reversed and the Israelis were being embargoed in that way the world would be up in arms. I also find it suspicious that Israel always ends up with more land every time there is an "event".

CLAIRE GAMACHE's picture

Annihilation

If you go by body count Israel is closer to doing it to the residents of Gaza than the other way around. Not that they won't keep trying. Why stop doing something that hasn't worked for centuries? Personally I think the world would be a better place if they did each other in. In any case I think our allegiance to Israel is a lot stronger than their allegiance to us and since none of the Republicans who are so gung ho on spending a fortune of our tax dollars arming Israel to the teeth thereby triggering a similar response from Iran therefore requiring more weapons from us and on and on and on are actually Jewish you have to wonder what their real motivation is. Could it be there is lobbying from our military industrial complex and from AIPAC?

Ethnic Replacement?

What the devil does that mean? Did you make it up or is that the new team slogan? As far as I know the people he is sending back are the people from Central America. Much as I would like to keep the kids and send Congress back instead I haven't actually seen any credible reports that it is happening. Last night I watched a report on our nuclear arsenal that should scare the bejesus out of every American. Apparently our nuclear arsenal is operating with untrained help, drunken leadership using computers that require floppy discs the size of plates. It will be a miracle if we don't end up nuking Kansas. Obama is not destroying the country. It rotted while our tax money was funneled to Halliburton, Exxon, ConAgra, General Electric, Boeing etc. Instead of worrying about lost emails we should be asking why the IRS has a computer system from the 50's that can't catch tax cheats and the ATF still has no leader. Instead of telling citizens they are selfish if they expect government services we should be asking why our government is so depleted that we no longer can afford services. This is the result of the spending spree of the Bush administration that Obama and Congress seem to have no money to fix.

Up in flames

The Middle East is up in flames the same way America was in 1776 when it decided it no longer wanted a king. They are in flames the same way America was when we had a civil war. Most of the world powers wisely stayed out of both of those wars with the exception of the French who probably saved our bacon during the Revolutionary war but were smart enough to leave when it was over. All of the countries that are in revolt in the Middle East are in the throws of getting rid of dictatorships, except for Gaza which is trying to end occupation. Once you get rid of the guy who has been running your country with an iron fist for 40 years you have a power vacuum followed by a scramble to fill it. It's a mess but not necessarily our mess. True this will to some extent affect gas prices but we have a choice to either crawl into bed in each one of these messes or develop energy independence. They tell us green energy is too expensive but really which costs more solar panels or war? We need to separate our interests from their local hatreds. We are not into empire building at least I hope not. Some people seem to think Iraq is the 51st state.
