Right by the book? Which part

Right by the book? Which part of the book condones assaulting the elderly and telling citizens to shut up?

I am ashamed to live in a state where people value the definition of a word more highly than the equality of their neighbors.

I'm not a Christian, so

I'm not a Christian, so correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Jesus teach sympathy and compassion? I don't believe hatred and intolerance was a big part of what he wanted for humanity. In fact, Matthew 25:40 says pretty clearly how a Christian should treat his neighbors. How will Jesus view those who cannot show compassion?

Not a Christian nation...

Not a Christian nation... it's what our founding fathers decreed. Period.

"Why would the church, under God, support this cause if it wasn't the right thing to do?"
The church, under God, also supported the Holocaust. The church not only supported, but instigated, the Inquisition and has supported the torture and murder of non-believers throughout history. Was this the right thing to do, Mr Ellis? Shall we return to gathering up the heretics and killing them in ways that put modern methods of torture to shame?

Your god gave you the free will to think for yourself and question those in authority. Use it.

One more time, from the top,

One more time, from the top, everyone. This is not a Christian nation. Our laws are not Christian law. When the founding fathers gave us the right to believe whatever we want, they also gave us the right to not be Christian and to have a moral code not based in Christianity. Furthermore, marraige is a civil institution, giving legal rights recognised by the state to committed couples. Your religious beliefs have no bearing whatsoever on anyone else's civil rights. It's in the constitution. Read it sometime.

He knew exactly what he was

He knew exactly what he was doing. He was sticking a nail through a cracker. Nothing more. If anyone needs "mega prayers," it's the thousands who sent him hate mail, death threats, and called for his resignation. Any god worth believing in would rather see his creations exercising their ability to think critically than expressing hatred toward those who do.

Handicap athletes? People

Handicap athletes? People are not handicaps. They are either "athletes with handicaps" or "handicapped athletes." These race participants have overcome huge obsticles in order to compete. Don't insult them by reducing them to "handicaps."

For the record, evolution

For the record, evolution does not claim that we came from apes. And I believe it's creationism that puts forth that apes, and everything else, "appeared out of the air."
