Don't replace one misunderstanding with another

Armymom, I know you mean well, and your observations are probably true for a lot of young transgender kids. But because being transsexual is more about the body than about gender role and performance, there's a lot of diversity in the personalities of young trans kids. Some trans boys are hypermasculine as you describe, but some are not. A very significant proportion (some have put the figure as high as half) of all young boys trapped in female bodies seem to grow up to be gay trans men. And gay or straight, many will find that they enjoy some of the things gendered "feminine" in our culture, just as any other boy might.

Similarly, little trans girls might be tomboys just like any other girl - they don't necessarily have to demand frills and ruffles and lace in order to prove that they're unhappy with their body and gender identity. In fact, most trans kids will prefer to dress and act just like any other kid of their preferred gender.
