I too agree w/ the voucher program. I feel many students benefit from the smaller student/teacher ratio. Especially the students who could be "left behind" in larger classrooms. The multi-age classes benefit both the child who needs more challenge and the ones who need a bit more help. The behavior expectations are much higher there than in public school as well.
According to this http://www.maine.gov/education/data/ppcosts/2009/ppc09sau.pdf it cost nearly 10K per pupil. I know we don't subsidize Holy Savior that much. I don't use Black Mtn. the Senior Center, Rec. Center or many of the other things that are subsidized by our tax dollars but think many of these things are necessary for a well rounded community that people might find attractive to live in. The sad thing here is once we vote these things away (or drive them out) they are gone for good. This school has a long history in Rumford, it would be a shame to let it go without giving it our best support.
I think it should. It's likely that the district savings by those students not attending public school offsets a good portion, if not all, of what we subsidize.
Polygamy and child marriage is acceptable and traditional in some countries. Do you think laws should be enacted for people from those countries who become US citizens to make this different lifestyle legal in our country? What kind of precedent do you think the same sex marriage scheme would be setting for future generations?
Even domesticated animals have homosexual tendencies but engaging in those acts are more about aggression than sex. In the civilized world of people, I wouldn't consider it natural to flout those tendencies or expect that laws will be enacted to promote the alternate lifestyle that these people have chosen. The gays blame their deviation from customary and traditional relationships on their genetic makeup. I tend to think it is a hormonal/chemical inbalance (btw, the Nazi's did too), if a person is bipolar don't they get treatment? I also think it is an alternative choice for those with rebellious tendencies, those who go out of their way to be different. Violence can be a genetic trait, does this make someone less responsible for the choices they make? Should the laws be changed to account for that? I think if a homosexual wants to commit to their lifestyle choice by having a sex change then they should be allowed to marry. I personally think it is important that Mr. and Mrs. be a male and female. This community has already gained the right to "significant other" benefits, the right to adopt, etc., why not leave it at that?? If they have all the rights except a marriage certificate what is the big deal?? No prenuptual? Get a lawyer and sign a contract.
Geez, what will all this do to evolution?? Will the hetorosexuals evolve into something with both sets of "tools" in the next millenium?
I have always been tolerant of gay people, live and let live. I felt so long as they didn't push they're lifestyle onto others that they should be left alone. Now they are pushing their lifestyle and beliefs onto others, which I feel is unacceptable. Their lifestyle is a choice, many laws have been amended to give them the rights they feel they need with the exception of marriage. I feel same sex marriage is wrong, I feel if this were allowed it wouldn't be many years before cousins and siblings would find it their right to be married. These laws set some moral boundaries, I think crossing these boundaries will lead to some serious morality issues years down the road. There are many people with identity issues out there but it is not their "right" to act upon them. Many predators would say their behavior pattern is one they were born with but I would hate to see them have the rights to act upon their urges. A gay person says they can't have fulfilling sex with someone of the opposite sex so we should change the laws? A child molester cannot have fulfilling sex with an adult, a rapist cannot have fulfilling sex without violence, will we be changing the laws for these people too?
Were these young people? At first is sounded like they may have shot each other... then I heard they were "found dead in the street", but then there was mention of someone seen running from the scene, a car with Mass. plates and the PD not being sure if there is a suspect "on the loose". I personally will feel much safer when I know that there isn't a suspect running about town.
