When you take a health care system that 85% of the people are happy with their coverage and totally rip it apart for 15% of the people. There could have been a better way to get coverage for that 15% than doing what they did. This was all about spreading the wealth. We have had Five years of Obama and the economy still is in a decline and no matter how this Administration portrays it the economy is not recovering. I can see the results in my retirement funds which are in the tank.
What will happen in Maine when the feds back out of paying that 90%? They have have promised 50 states, PR, US Virgin Island, Guam and US Samoa to pay thei cost. Either they raise all the tax rates and get rid of exemptions or they push all the cost back onto the states. If you think the tax rate in Maine is high now wait til this dumped back onto Maine. This will stifle the economy even more.
I heard this morning that the feds have indicated that the fund for bridging people with pre-existing conditions until obamacare kicks in is out of money and they are not accepting any new enrollees. This fund had five Billion dollars and only One Hundred Thousand were enrolled and there is Four Hundred Thousand more waiting to enroll. I was all for healthcare reform however, this law was created in the dead of night with no thought on an what would actually work and what would be best for the country. It was voted on without anyone reading the bill and when this thing fully kicks in 1/1/2014 I think that premiums will likely double.
The mural may be a part of history but being displayed in the Department of Labor without showing an opposing viewpoint was not right. The Dept of Labor is suppose to be nonpartisan with no stake in either side.
Maybe if they had tougher prison sentences people would think twice about stealing. These criminals getting outing in 6 months or a year is hardly a deterrant.
I live in NH and I don't usually drive on the turnpikes here mostly on back roads so an EZ-Pass is not worth it and for driving on the Maine turnpike I am under the impression that I wouldn't get a discount anyway. Most of the time I get on the pike at Kittery and get off in Lewiston but on Memorial day I drive to the Veterans cemetary in Augusta. I come up on a number of the Holidays and a couple of times on other days in between.
With this increase in the tolls I will be making less trips back home to visit my family. I usually make at least 4-5 trips home but will likely scale back those trips. I guess I will start using Skype to keep in touch.
Colgans answer to cheaper energy cost in Maine is to tax coal so that it raises the cost of energy in other parts of the country. That way everybody is paying the same for energy. So how does that lower the cost of energy to Mainers?
I enjoyed reading this article. It brought back a lot of memories of growing up in a Greek family. I didn't get a chance to go to greek school growing up but I have found an online language program from Greece and have been trying to learn the language of my heritage using this program.
LA= Lewiston/Auburn ......And I don't curse when I travel the pike. Its a cost of moving out of state in order to find a job in my career field at the time.
