Simply Put

After everything obama bin laden, a.k.a. barack hussein has done to this Country, it's about time someone tells him to go to hell!

This has nothing to do with

This has nothing to do with Paul LePage or tax dodgers. It's because Democrats and Baldacci thought "land of the free" meant free food, free heating, free housing, free Maine Care. That will all change in November!!!!

I said the same thing

I wrote to my local State Senator and State Rep and wondered the exact same thing. What they did here was a complete waste of taxpayer money and someone needs to be held accountable for it. This was completely avoidable and an outright STUPID idea from the beginning. They should have built a new road out through the back side of the adjacent fields while commuters used the temporary fix when there were Jersey barriers. They had two summers to complete the work. What's even more upsetting is I have heard from a reliable source that the MDOT had a long term plan to build a completely new road through those fields but chose to try and save money.

Do it right the first time

I agree this project was a waste of money and time. MDOT should have been re-routing the road out through the back side of the fields adjacent to this problem area. Commuters could have continued to use the temporary section that had the Jersey barriers while the new road was being constructed away from the river. There would have been no traffic disruption for commuters and MDOT wouldn't of have had to deal with traffic while they were constructing the new road. They could have taken all spring, summer, and fall to complete it at their leisure and the new road would be opening soon. Businesses could have stayed open, commuters would be happy, construction workers would have been safe with no traffic, and the elderly couple could be looking at finishing out their years with quiet riverfront property after the new road opened.

Band Aid Project

That's what this was. Here you have a classic example of where the State's priorities are. This area of 136 has been eroding away for several years and instead of implementing the long term solution that was to re-route the road entirely away from the river they've literally thrown money into the river at the expense of local residents, businesses, and 4500 daily commuters. Their long term plan should have been high on that list of "shovel ready"projects instead of the Russell Street granite curbing maze project.

Another opportunity

knocks. Hopefully we don't miss this opportunity like we did last time when the Bahres wanted to bring an International Speeway to Maine. The State and local governments didn't want it in our backyard so they took their business endeavor out of state and NH has reaped the benefits for 20 years. This time Maine voters need to seize the chance to create jobs and grow our local economy.

Calling All Volunteers

Consider this a call for voluteers to help the Montello Parent ,Teachers, and Friends Club (PTFC) for 2010-2011 school year. The PTFC is always, always, always, looking for volunteers.

The next PTFC meeting should be Sept. 8, 2010 (always the second Wednesday of every month) usually from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm at the Montello School. Everyone is invited!

It's always the same four or five volunteers that plan, coordinate, and put on activities for a school with over 700 students. I challenge all parents and friends of Montello School to get involved and volunteer next year.

Ain't That The Truth...

If this puts too many people to work we'll loose all the Federal assistance money too.

Last I knew

Sunday River ski area is still there, still worth millions, and still employs alot more people in the Bethel area than it did before he purchased it.

He took the company public, acquired other ski areas, and soon after because of a few bad winters with little snow, things started going south. Investers that bought the stock, including Les, knew the risks of investing in a business that depends on 3 months of snowy weather.

He destroyed nothing. He transformed Newry into what it is today which is a heck of alot more than it was 20 years ago!

correction

When I wrote this article I used the word "they" meaning "state" not city officials. The editor has interpreted it the wrong way in error for I knew this was a state project.
