Not because it was a Pitbill

Having two intact male dogs in one household is a recipe for disaster. It does not matter if they are pitbulls or cocker spaniels. Especially with the first dog having established dominance and a young male coming of age. Unfortunately, these dogs will probably receive a death sentence because of the irresponsibility of the owner.

My heart goes out to them

I can't begin to imagine the grief and loss they are feeling now. The Schuesler's have many friends in this community and we will come together to support them and do anything we can to help. One correction on the Sun Journal story though. The dog is safe. Poppee was at the veterinarian when the fire started, and is now back with Bob and Jackie. She needs our prayers too because she has no use of her back legs and needs constant nursing care. Maybe a doggie wheelchair in her future.

David and Goliath

This is a true David and Goliath story. Monsanto is a powerful mega-corporation with influential lobbyists and very deep pockets. The organic farmers are a small grassroots organization. It takes a lot of guts to stand up to such a formidable enemy. I am proud of all these farmers for taking a stand.

Easily traceable?

If this is a gun legally owned and owner has a concealed weapon permit, it should be registered and therefore traceable by the police. Simple detective work. If it is unregistered, they will have to work a little harder.

How much negligence?

Steve,
There is a huge difference in the two accounts as to any negligence on the part of the grandmother. In the first case, it says the dog was quarantined by Animal Control the day before, and it was behind a barricade short enough for a 1 year old to lean over and be pulled in by the supposed wolf-hybrid. If that were the case, a known-to-be aggressive wolf hybrid would have not been properly contained with a child having access to it, which would be a case of extreme negligence on the part of the grandmother. In the second account, a family dog who had no history of aggression aggression bit a child in the hallway. The dog was up to date on shots, and the grandmother had no reason to think that dog would bite the child. It is still a tragedy, but the grandmother was certainly not criminally negligent.

SJ should get the facts straight

This updated article is quite different from the original article. The first article said the child was 1 year old, bitten by a pitbull-wolf cross, and mother, not grandmother bitten. It said the child was still hospitalized and mother facing reconstructive surgery. It also said the dog was under quarantine which was not true. SJ should get the facts straight before publishing a story.

He only wanted 15 minutes

Ron Paul only wanted 15 minutes to speak to the delegation and bring his case for the Republicans returning to their constitutional and platform roots of personal freedom and fiscal responsibility. Dr. Paul hoped to influence the Republican platform in a positive way and let people know that if they want to win against Obama, then they have to be different than Obama. He has a strong following across this country and across all age groups, and these people deserve to have a voice too. The RNC has effectively cut off any possible support from these Republicans by not allowing Paul delegates into the convention and not allowing Dr. Paul to speak. If Romney loses, it will be the fault of the RNC, not Ron Paul.

Good for LePage

I congratulate Governor LePage for standing his ground and not taking part in the RNC pseudo-convention. The RNC has bent over backwards to discredit Paul supporters and ensure that he will not have a part at the convention. They have changed rules after the fact and challenged legally and ethically elected delegates and taken their seats away from them. I bet the Obama camp loves the RNC now! The liberty movement will not stop because of the RNC, it will only get stronger. Watch out RNC in 2016!

Poor choice of words

I am very sorry for the family and for this little girl. I do take exception to the term "mental retardation" being used in this article. The term is archaic, and also an inaccurate description of the possible outcome of Danika's injuries. She has suffered from a traumatic brain injury, and as a result, she may have temporary or permanent cognitive and/or physical disabilities. The term "mental retardation" is outdated and even when it was used, it was used to refer to congenital disabilities, not those acquired from a brain injury.
I wish the best for Danika, and pray that she will not suffer any permanent disability from her accident.

Way to go Staples and Cianchette

Staples and Cianchette should congratulate themselves. They have successfully alienated Ron Paul supporters so that none of them will even consider voting for Romney. Paul supporters were well-organized and knew the rules of the caucus. The Romney supporters were lazy and just assumed it would be business as usual. They lost fair and square and are a bunch of sore losers. Things didn't go their way and now they are whining and crying and grabbing at straws (no pun intended) to find a way to win, even if it means changing the rules after the fact. This is why so many Republican voters are sick of the status quo, and happy to find a candidate that truly stands for what we believe in: Limited government and bringing this country back to its constitutional roots. Ron Paul may not win this year, but the freedom movement is a groundswell that wil not go away. The Republicans have a choice in the coming years, either get back to their constitutional roots and true limited government, or get out of the way of the Libertarians.
