Community celebration plans underway

MECHANIC FALLS — The Mechanic Falls Community Celebration Committee will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 14, in the Town Council chambers.

The committee is planning a variety of events for Saturday, June 26, using the Pottle Hill Road Race as a lead in on that day to rekindle the spirit of Homecoming Days for the local community.

Events that have been planned are a kayak race down the Little Androscoggin, sponsored by the committee; a Fireman’s Muster, sponsored by the Mechanic Falls Fire Department; and a book sale at the Mechanic Falls Library. Melissa Hodgkin, recreation and school committee member, will revive the Bike, Doll Carriage and Horribles Parade.

Also, the Mechanic Falls Historical Society will hold an open house and have Stephen Kilbreth discuss Buckskin Sam, a Mechanic Falls resident from the late 19th century who wrote an autobiography of his exploits.

Plans are also underway for other activities. The public is welcome to attend and offer their ideas.
