LEWISTON — The spring weather has finally arrived and so have the plans for a new community garden in downtown Lewiston. St. Mary’s Health System, Lots to Gardens, Community Credit Union and the City of Lewiston invite community members to the first community planning meeting, to be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 4.
“We’re always looking for new ways to get involved in the community,” said Donna R Steckino, president/CEO of Community Credit Union. “This year we’ve decided to get involved by continuing to help beautify the neighborhood around our Lewiston branch.”
In the past year, Community Credit Union has changed what were two unusable condemned buildings into usable functional space; one of which will serve as the future home of the community garden located on the corner of Pine and Howe streets.
“This is not St. Mary’s Garden; it doesn’t belong to Community Credit Union; it doesn’t belong to the city,” said Steckino. “This community garden belongs to the neighborhood, the members of this community.”
All community members are invited to attend the meeting at the future site of the garden, corner of Pine and Howe streets. Community members will have the opportunity to learn about the garden, give feedback, offer input and find out how to get involved.
