BRIDGTON – A variety of activities are slated during a block party fundraiser, to be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m Saturday, April 24, on Depot Street.

Grilled sausages, brick-oven pizza and homemade desserts will be served and there will be dancing, karaoke and dunking.

“Several high-profile Bridgtontonians are lining up for a dunking,” said Sue Robbins, spokesperson for the Lakes Region Dental Clinic. Police officer Mac McCormick, clerk John Anderson and Bridgton Selectman Art Triglione were the earliest volunteers. “We’ve got plenty of time for more,” she said.

Funds raised during the event are earmarked to promote a community dental clinic which could open as early as December 2011.

“We hope to raise $2,000 to match the $8,000 the town has set aside for us,” said Robbins. She said the money will be used to develop a business plan for the clinic, approach surrounding towns for funding and to learn how to fundraise all the money needed to get the clinic’s doors opened.

Eventually, when the proposed clinic is fully functional, it will serve approximately 45,000 people in 17 towns in Cumberland and Oxford counties and will most likely be administered by Community Dental Inc.

Depot Street is located in downtown Bridgton, behind Reny’s department store. There is plenty of free parking. The block party is handicapped accessible and is free and open to the public.

Anyone with items to donate for the auction or those wishing to volunteer may contact George Bradt at 647-2389.
