Golf: Kannegieser wins second women's amateur crown
BATH - Kristin Kannegieser of Minot won her second Women's Maine State Golf Association amateur title in four years Wednesday, holding off Debby Gardner to win the organization's 80th state championship at Bath Country Club.
Kannegieser, who represents Martindale Country Club, shot a 6-over 76 to finish at 227. Gardner carded a 73, the low round on the final day of the 54-hole tournament, to end at 231.
Gardner, of Belgrade, birdied No. 15 after Kannegieser took double-bogey on No. 14 to cut the deficit to two shots. But Kannegieser sank a tricky, 4-foot putt to start a string of four pars to close the round.
First-round leader Mary Brandes of Falmouth (The Woodlands) was third, eight shots behind Kannegieser, after an 82.
Leslie Guenther of Norway Country Club, winner of last week's Southern Maine Women's Golf Association title, shot 83 for a three-day total of 241. She finished fifth.
Kannegieser backed up her opening-round 74 with a 77 to grab the 36-hole lead.

Public access from Sewall Street.?
What about allowing public access to the topside of the pile from Sewall St. and having the bottom part off limits to the public? Wouldn't take much more than putting the posts and cables back up so no one can drive on the pile and dump a bucket or two of sand up there once in a while.
