PARIS – Anyone who has had a child die in the family is invited to attend a meeting on Tuesday Feb. 6, in South Paris with the intent to establish a local chapter of the Compassionate Friends, a nonprofit self-help bereavement support organization for families that have experienced the death of a child of any age.

The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. at the Haskell House, next to the First Congregational Church, East Main Street, South Paris.

The organization is nonsecular and welcomes bereaved parents, siblings, grandparents and immediate family members.

The mission of the Compassionate Friends is to assist families toward the positive resolution of grief following the death of a child and to provide information to help others be supportive.

There are nearly 600 chapters in the United States, with locations in all 50 states plus Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C. The nearest chapter to South Paris is in Lewiston.
