Concert of chants, anthems will honor the earth

NORWAY — The First Universalist Church of Norway will present its second annual Earth Day Peace Concert on Sunday, April 25, in the church sanctuary.

Performing will be Vessel Recordings artist Heather Pierson and the First Universalist Church choir.

The program, which will benefit the church’s belfry repair project, will include anthems, chants, rounds and readings that celebrate and honor the earth and the ideal of peace.

In a career spanning two decades, Pierson has shared the stage with rock musicians and folk legends, sung in sacred rituals and ceremonies all over the United States, and produced four solo recordings under her record label. Her repertoire includes her signature style of jazz-tinged neoclassical piano compositions, folk-infused ballads and world-beat percussion.

She is music director at the First Universalist Church as well as founder and host of the Norway Open Mic Night, held the last Friday of every month at the church.

The concert will begin at 2 p.m. Donation is $5 at the door. The church is at 479 Main St. For more information, call 743-2828 or e-mail Pierson at [email protected]
