Conn. mandates ‘green’ cleaning

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) – Beginning this week, all state agencies, if they aren’t already, must begin using environmentally safe cleaning products.

The governor’s office announced Sunday that Gov. M. Jodi Rell will issue an executive order this week directing the changeover to “greener” cleaning products.

“By using environmentally safe cleaning products, we will take several steps forward,” Rell said in a written statement. “We can create and maintain sanitary conditions in state facilities, we can minimize the potential for harm to our state employees, and we can improve indoor air quality.”

The new purchasing guidelines will be issued by the Department of Administrative Services, in consultation with the departments of Public Health, Public Works and Environmental Protection.
