Conservation District holding compost bin sale

LEWISTON – As a part of Earth Day 2006 celebrations, Androscoggin Valley Soil and Water Conservation District, Goddard Road, will participate in a statewide backyard composting bin sale.

The Waste Management and Recycling Program staff has reported, “Every ton of food scraps and yard trimmings residents home compost is one less ton you need to pay for disposal. Residents can save $65 for every ton of waste they compost because it is not shipped out of town for disposal.”

Through May 1, a home compost bin and how-to guide with a combined retail value of $80 can be purchased for $41.50 plus tax. The bin is black, has a 10-year warranty, and is made of 100 percent recycled plastic. It is approximately 35″ high and 33″ wide, or large enough for a family of five.

Call Jane Heikkinen at the Conservation District Office for an order form at 753-9400, ext. 400.
