1928 – 2014
WATERVILLE — Constance A. “Connie” Thompson, 86, formerly of Jay, died Saturday, Dec. 20, at Mount Saint Joseph, where she was a resident for the past year and a half.
Constance was born on Jan. 19, 1928, a daughter of James and Doris (Sands) Reed. She received her education in local schools and graduated from Wilton Academy.
Upon finishing school, Connie met her husband, Edward, in Old Orchard Beach, and they were married on Feb. 3, 1946. They lived in Brookline, Mass., and raised their five children.
Upon retirement, Connie and Ed moved back to the mountains of Maine, where she worked at G.H. Bass Shoe Co. She was skilled at knitting and crocheting, and often crocheted sweaters and afghans for family members. Connie had a great devotion and love for her cats and treated them as family.
She is survived by her children, June McNulty and her husband, John, of Framingham, Mass., Stephen Thompson and his wife, Carol, of Oakland, Cheryl Long and her husband, Mark, of Olympia, Wash., and John Thompson of Haddam, Conn.; a daughter-in-law, Carol Clark, of Marlborough, Mass.; sisters, Peggy Stickney of Wilton and Janet Lucarelli of Jay; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Edward; a son, James Thompson; brother, Gerald Reed; sister, Anita Reed; and daughter-in-law, Helen Thompson.
