AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - The Baldacci administration is reminding people that that Maine state government offices are closed on Friday, July 3, in observance of the Independence Day holiday.
Additionally, nearly all state agencies and offices will be closed on Monday, July 6, as a cost saving initiative in the new state budget.
Monday will be the first of 20 state shutdown days over the next two years.

Govt2Big says
This shutdown day is a great idea, but when will our legislators realize we need larger and broader spending cuts in state government? This could & should be done by reducing the amount of wasteful programs and all of the related state jobs. It’s time for these wasteful political games with our tax dollars to stop!
Although it won't be easy, it has to be done! If you believe the state should cut spending, come join the solution at Maine Taxpayers United, www.MaineTaxpayers.com
and now on Facebook. BTW, the mission of ‘Maine Taxpayers United’
is to reduce the Maine tax burden and promote prudent government spending.
In addition, another good website for us concerned taxpayers of Maine:
Citizens Alliance of Maine at http://mainealliance.com.
It's time for some positive changes in Maine, but more people need to act in order to help make-it-happen. Happy 4th!
