Contest winners honored at banquet


LISBON – Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9459 and Auxiliary held the Voice of Democracy and Patriot’s Pen banquet recently. Awards have been presented to the winners of both contests.

Each student prepared a written essay and tape to be judged. The first-place Voice of Democracy winner, Michael Girouard, went on to win first in the district and third in the state. The theme was “Freedom’s Challenge.” The top national award is $30,000.

The theme for the Patriot’s Pen contest was “Citizenship in America.” Winner was Forrest Jordan. Prizes are awarded at each level. The top national award is $10,000 savings bond.
