Cote brings unique guitar stylings to Oasis

LEWISTON — John Cote will bring his jazz-inflected celtic guitar stylings and songs to the Oasis of Music this Wednesday, April 5, in a free concert from 12:30-1 p.m.  The Oasis of Music held at Trinity Church, 247 Bates St..

Cote is well-known to audiences in Maine and beyond for his work with Wake the Neighbors and especially Perpetual e-Motion, a nationally recognized cutting-edge exponent of contemporary fiddle music for contradancing.  With fiddler Ed Howe, Cote brought intriguing effects-assisted sounds (with his feet, digeridoo and vocals added into the mix) to their performances and recordings, giving new meaning to what a duo can present to a dancing audience.

Wednesday’s performance will pare things down to his acoustic guitar and voice in the resonant space of Trinity Church.

Upcoming Oasis concerts include piper and banjoist Anthony Shostak with his fiddling daughter Oona, April 12, and classical piano with Kathy Kienitz, April 26.  For more information call 344-3106.
