SOUTH PARIS – Jenny Jurczak threw a no-hitter and struck out nine batters, leading Oxford Hills to a 5-0 softball win over Mt. Blue on Wednesday afternoon.
The lone extra base hit of the game came off a triple by the Vikings’ (1-0) Tia Pratt. Emmy Lou Blake reached home on an error off a Megan Gauger hit to put the first run on the board for Oxford Hills. Mt. Blue’s (0-1) Megan Richard walked three and hit three batters, putting additional Viking players in scoring position and proving to be a key advantage in the game.
Maran. 14, Oak Hill 2
WALES – Diane Evans allowed just seven hits and two runs, and went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead Maranacook to a 14-2 victory over Oak Hill in KVAC softball action Wednesday.
Evans led the Black Bears (1-0) with three RBIs in a 3-for-5 performance, while Katie Rich went 3-for-4 with one RBI.
The Raiders (0-1) were paced by Kristen Eaton with two hits and two RBIs, while catcher Shannon Safford also went 2-for-3. Danni Potvin and Brittany Wood split time on the mound, with Potvin taking the loss after a damaging first five innings.
Lisbon 19, Hall-Dale 8
FARMINGDALE – Heather Parrey and Soleil Mathieu each hit a single, a double, and a triple as Lisbon sailed to a 19-8 win over Hall-Dale in girls’ softball Wednesday afternoon.
Riodan Siokban smacked a double and a triple for the Greyhounds (1-0). Lisbon trailed until the sixth inning, where it tied the contest 8-8. In the seventh inning, the Greyhounds took advantage of Bulldog errors to blow the game wide open and seal their win with 11 runs.
Vicki Osmond had a strong day on the mound, fanning seven batters. Brittany Ladner hit a double and two singles, while Julia Nyitray and Jessie Stevens each hit two singles for the Bulldogs (0-1).
Lake Region 5, Fryeburg 0
FRYEBURG – Kim Rivet had two hits, two RBIs, and three stolen bases for Lake Region as the Raiders topped Fryeburg with a 5-0 win Wednesday in girls’ softball.
In the fourth inning, Rivet stole second and third, and came home on a passed-ball to tally the first run of the game. She hit a two-run triple in the seventh inning to help solidify the 5-0 Lakers (1-0) win.
Despite the loss, freshman Hannah Hill dominated on the mound for Fryeburg (0-1), striking out a game-high 17 batters, while walking only one.
Livermore Falls 20, Jay 5
JAY – Taryn Flagg went 4-for-5 with four RBIs to lead Livermore Falls to a 20-5 victory over Jay in MVC softball action Wednesday.
Katie Warren chipped in for the Andies (1-0) with three hits and one RBI. Sam Whitney struck out four and allowed just five hits to notch the win.
The Tigers (0-1) were paced by Kaylie DeMillo and Desire Castonguay with two hits apiece, while Zeena Armandi contributed with one hit.
DeMillo also handled pitching duties and was saddled with the loss.
Gardiner 11, EL 1
GARDINER – Amanda Cray smacked a solo home run in the third inning to assist Gardiner in an 11-1 romp of Edward Little in softball action Wednesday.
Cray also hit a two-run double for the Tigers (1-0).
The only other extra base hit belonged to Amanda Abbott with a double.
