Council support sought on parks

LEWISTON – Downtown activists will gather at city hall tonight to call on the City Council to support so-called “pocket parks” in the Knox Street neighborhood.

Members of the Visible Community and allies will meet at 6:45 p.m. in front of the City Building on Pine Street before the council meets. After a short press conference, members will go to the council meeting to testify in support of neighborhood parks. Councilors are scheduled to meet at 7 p.m.

In a recent Downtown Neighborhood Survey conducted by the Harward Center for Community Partnerships and the Visible Community, people spoke of the need for parks and green spaces to be expanded in the neighborhood.
