Couple charged in ID theft

LACONIA, N.H. (AP) – A former Laconia City Council and School Board candidate and his wife have been charged with identity theft and police say they were led to the suspects after they allegedly paid personal bills with a bogus credit card.

Barry Laughton, 23, and Lisa Laughton, 36, face several charges after allegedly using someone else’s identification to get a credit card, then make more than $3,000 in purchases.

But police say they were led to the Laughtons because the credit card also was used to pay their cable TV bill and cell phone bills.

Laughton ran for School Board last year and City Council a year earlier.
