FALMOUTH — The Alzheimer’s Association, Maine Chapter, is accepting registrations for the May 2010 Maine Savvy Caregiver series. The six-week course is designed for spouses, siblings, adult children and significant others of individuals who are living in Maine with Alzheimer’s disease or one of the related dementias.
The series will cover basic information about dementia, the impact of dementia on the person who has it, effective communication and interaction skills, disease-stage appropriate tasks and activities, techniques to deal with responsive behaviors, problem-solving skills and caregiver self-care.
Alzheimer’s Association, Maine Chapter staff will teach the course. Courses will be held on the following dates:
Lewiston: Thursdays, May 27, June 3, 10, 17, 24 and July 1, from 9 to 11 a.m., at Seniors Plus Education Center, 8 Falcon Road
Poland: Thursdays, May 27, June 3, 10, 17, 24 and July 1, from 1 to 3 p.m., at Ricker Memorial Library, 1211 Main St.
Auburn: Fridays, May 28, June 4, 11, 18, 25 and July 2, from 9 to 11 a.m., at Auburn Hall, 60 Court St., Room 204.
Farmington: Fridays, May 28, June 4, 11, 18, 25 and July 2, from 1 to 3 p.m., at Franklin Memorial Hospital, Ben Franklin Center.
