Course on conflict planned


AUBURN – The Corporate and Community Services Department at Central Maine Community College will offer Conflict Management (CCS 063-01) from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. June 15 and 22. The cost of $125 includes materials.

The course is designed to develop skills for dealing with interpersonal relationships and conflicts in the workplace. Participants gain understanding of different communication styles, responses to conflict, types of conflict and possible interventions.

The seminar places emphasis on self-awareness as an important part of being able to manage conflict. A variety of assessment tools, exercises and role plays are used to create understanding. An awareness of cultural differences is integrated throughout the training.

Julie Zink will facilitate the program. She has been a faculty member in the college Communication Department and the University of Southern Maine since 2001.

She graduated from the University of Mississippi in 1982 with a bachelor of arts in education. After teaching speech, drama and debate at Forrest City High School in Arkansas for three years, she completed her master’s degree in theater with an emphasis in directing at the University of South Carolina. While at USC, she worked as associate director of forensics where she traveled extensively with the USC debate team.
