NAPLES — The Lake Region High School Cyber Defense Team took home the second place trophy at the first ever Maine High School Cyber Defense Competition held on March 20 at the University of Maine at Orono.
Team members Kyle Perreault, Cullen Shaw, Destin Pinkham, Michael Dow and Maegan Katz displayed team excellence in securing many different types of computing systems against attacks from an outside group of “hackers.”
As part of the event, the team previously completed a community service project intended to educate area businesses about common tools and strategies to protect computer workstations and network environments. The Bridgton Young Professionals Organization supported the team in part of their community service project.
Advised by Lake Region High School Computer Technician Greg Watkins and mentored by district Director of Instructional Technology Joshua Sturk, the students achieved great new heights for Lake Region High School in an age of computers and digital communication that can only help in keeping up with current technology.
