Dale E. Glidden


NORWAY – The Rev. Dale E. Glidden, 76, of Norway, died Wednesday, July 4, at Stephens Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Milo, April 19, 1931, the son of Franklin E. and Thelma G. Russell Glidden. He attended area schools and graduated from Livermore Falls High School and was in the first graduating class of Faith School of Theology. He was an ordained minister in the Assembly of God Church for 40 years.

He began his ministry in Lancaster, N.H., then in Columbia, N.H., and for many years was at Faith Chapel Assembly of God in Oxford. He served as sectional Presbyter in the North Central Section of the Assembly of God Churches. During his life in the ministry, he also worked as a hospital orderly and in retail stores in New Hampshire and Maine, having worked more than 25 years at Smith’s Shop N’ Save in South Paris and Oxford. He attended the 1st Assembly of God Church in Lewiston for more than 25 years and was still active in its ministry.

He started playing the piano at the age of 10 and was accomplished in classical music before turning more to religous music at church. He enjoyed traveling and scenic tours through the White Mountains. On June 17, 1951, he married Lena Crane. She died Jan. 20, 2000. On Sept. 17, 2005, he married Martha Hutchinson.

Survivors include his wife of Norway; two daughters, Christine L. Whitney of Greene and Darlene E. Glidden of Richmond, Va.; a daughter-in-law, Josephine Glidden of Chesapeake, Va.; a stepdaughter, Janice Lovelace of Clover, Va.; four grandchildren, Kelly Masterman, Melvin Glidden, Andrew Grant and Vanessa Kadans; a stepgrandson, Jonathan Tompkins; eight great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a son, Rodney E. Glidden, U.S.Navy, CPO; and a brother, Tony.
