TOGUS — Daniel J. Fonseca, 65, of Lake Road, Wilton, died Sunday, Jan. 29, at the Togus VA Medical Center.
He was born in Newburyport, Mass., Aug. 13, 1946, a son of Joseph and Helen Page Brown. On Feb. 25, 1968, he entered the U.S. Marine Corps and served in the Vietnam Conflict, where he received the Purple Heart and the Presidential Unit Citation. He retired from the Marine Corps as a result of permanent disability due to wounds received in action.
He moved to Wilton in 1988, where he enjoyed his boat and being on the lake. He loved fishing, camping, spending time with his family, and following New England Sports teams. He was a member of the Calvary Hill Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Donna (Madore) Fonseca of Wilton; his children, Rhonda Fonseca and her companion, Jeff Grove, of Erie, Pa., Wendi Smith and her husband, Matthew, of Farmington and Daniel Fonseca Jr. and his companion, Janine Solheim, of Amesbury, Mass.; two adopted children, Jennifer Fonseca of Salisbury, Mass., and Michael Fonseca of Brunswick; a stepson, Phillip Smith and his wife, Juline, of Nantucket, Mass.; siblings, Diana Fonseca Sansoucie and her husband, Norman, of East Kingston, N.H., Linda Gouthier and her husband, Grover, of Livermore Falls, Andrew P. Brown Jr. and his wife, Mary Ellen, of Plaistow, N.H., Darlene Woodward and her husband, Don, of Danville, N.H., and Kathy Kraus and her husband, Tim, of North Carolina; six grandchildren, Danielle Grove, Leah Grove, Timothy Smith, Jayden Fonseca, Sophia Solheim and Michael Riddick Fonseca; a stepgranddaughter, Jada-Lee Smith; his former wives, Suzanne Eaton and Ellen B. Guild, both of Newburyport, Mass.; he is also survived by his many nieces and nephews, whom he greatly adored.
He was predeceased by a former wife, Linda L. Lattime Fonseca.
