DAR chapter to honor local award winners


AUBURN — The Mary Dillingham Chapter, DAR, will honor outstanding area high school seniors at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, April 15, at the Auburn Public Library.

The students are winners of the annual DAR Good Citizens Award and the DAR National Defense Good Citizenship Medal Award.

They were chosen by their respective schools for outstanding citizenship, honesty, courage, service, leadership and patriotism.

The Good Citizens Award also provides the opportunity for the student to participate in the essay contest, for which scholarships are presented on the state and national levels. The DAR Good Citizens are chosen by the students and faculty of public and accredited schools, including home-schooled students.

The Good Citizenship Medal Award is given on the chapter level through the National Defense Committee for the same merits. Both awards are open to boys and girls.

This year’s DAR Good Citizens winners are: Buckfield Junior-Senior High School, Brittany F. Wiley, daughter of Michael and Darcy Wiley of Buckfield; Edward Little High School, Hanna M. Mogensen, daughter of Mark R. Mogensen and Chris I. Gillis of Auburn; Leavitt Area High School, Travis Adams, son of Mitchell and Karen Adams of Leeds; Lewiston High School, Peggy M. Matheny, daughter of Edmund and Terry Waite of Lewiston.

DAR Good Citizenship Medal Award winners are: Buckfield Junior-Senior High School, Fred C. Parks, son of Norman and Laura Parks Jr. of Buckfield; Edward Little High School, Christopher D. Camire, son of Rick Camire and Cindy Hammond of Auburn; Leavitt Area High School, Kate McKeown, daughter of Paul and Patricia McKeown of Turner; Lewiston High School, Ruth Choate, daughter of Andrew and Karen Choate of Lewiston.

Following a program for the honored students, family and faculty, refreshments will be served.
