Daughters of Isabella planning yard sale


JAY — The Daughters of Isabella Circle 677 from St. Rose of Lima met for a business meeting on April 14. The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. by Regent Laurie Gagnepain. The members were led in the restoration of the rosary by Chancellor Laurieanne Castonguay.

Recording Secretary Louise Chandler read the minutes from the March business meeting. She also read thank you cards she received from the Livermore Falls Middle School for the donation the group gave for the Price Is Right fundrasier held on March 27. There was also a thank you from the Tri Town Ministerial, and also from the family of Marie Leblanc for the five Masses the daughters gave in her honor.

The purchase of carnations for Mother’s Day was talked about and it was voted that the members will sell carnations after the Mass on Saturday and Sunday, May 8 and 9, at St. Rose in Jay and also at St. Josephs in Farmington.

Gagnepain read an Easter card she received for the group from State Regent Beatrice Dostie. The Membership Blitz was also mentioned to get new members to join the Daughters of Isabella. There were no applications for new members or transfers.

The quarterly reports are set up for Wednesday, April 28, after the April Social. The social will be at 6:30 p.m.

Get well cards were sent out to Carman Moreau, Shirley Toncer, Denise Rodzen and Louise Chabot. Gagnepain thanked everyone who helped on the bean supper.

There was one application for a scholarship which Gagnepain sent in. There will be six members attending the off-year meeting. Rita Crowley has sent in all the papers for the awards program. Gagnepain thanked Crowley for all of her hard work on getting the papers to be sent in.

The members will make the desserts for the upcoming Parish Picnic that the Boy Scouts will hold. Castonguay spoke about the upcoming yard sale to be held on Saturday, May 1, at the parish hall. She asked everyone to bring in their items for the sale after noon Friday, April 30. There will be a clothing table, white elephant, books and food.

Helen Hobbs said that there are T-shirts and sweatshirts with the Daughters of Isabella logo for sale. T-shirts are $7 and sweatshirts are $15. Anyone wishing to purchase one may contact Hobbs.

Rosemary Polsen spoke about the great job Kim Couture is doing as the public relations person. Polsen also pointed out that while she was recently ill, a daughter called and talked with her and that made her feel better to talk with someone from the circle. Polsen would like to start calling any member that is recovering from an illness.

Denise Rodzen spoke about what happens at the monthly business meetings and how the meetings are to be held. She spoke about the rules of the circle and how members are to conduct themselves at the meetings. Anyone who was not present at the meeting and would like a copy of the rules may contact Rodzen to get a copy. The meeting came to a close at 8 p.m.
