Dead cats found in N.H. home

LEMPSTER, N.H. (AP) -Police who checked the home of a woman who died recently found at least six dead cats and dozens of sick and terrified animals.

The home belonged to an elderly woman. Police declined to release her name, but said she was known as “The Cat Lady.”

Police said they found two dogs and 20 to 30 live cats, as well as two litters of kittens. The animals were surrounded by trash and their own waste.

The Sullivan County Humane Society arrived Saturday afternoon and began removing the animals, who will be taken to foster homes until they can be evaluated by a veterinarian.

Humane Society officials said that if some of the animals are too sick, they may have to be euthanized. Healthier animals will be put up for adoption.
